More of a building site than a golf course now. Earth mounds everywhere, trees cut down. Tees and greens uneven with very patchy grass. Lots of water features added but God only knows what is in some of them. The liquid in some is a very weird colour and I certainly wouldn't attempt to retrieve a ball from that stuff. Some changes were to be expected when the change of ownership occurred but this is now years later and the course is a shambles but the green fees have actually increased! Whoever is responsible for the changes seems to believe that covering every fairway with as many bunkers as possible makes a good course but I'm afraid I don't agree. This used to be one of the best municipals in all of Merseyside. Sure the drainage needed improving but the never ending building work has ruined this course and I will not play here again.

Played October, complete waste of time !!! We’re told in the shop bit of water on the course. It was completely waterlogged , it wasn’t fit for purpose, should of been closed. Wouldn’t play till next spring at least. Money seems the main prerogative . Quite sad

every time we (2-16 handicaps 1-20 handicap) play this course (4 times) we only played to the 10th because of the back log of golfers a group on the green - a group on the fairway and group on the tee and that is the 1st tee------- Its all about the MONEY

Don’t bother

This is the worst course in the north west. 2 years ago I played every sat morning There were trees and tests it was a little bit long but forgiving greens always rolled true. So this course has been sold and is 1 million times worst than 2 years ago.i have seen cleaner building sites. There is water everywhere 3 temp greens and the other 15 that are on are awful muddy patches every and bobbling offline. Balls plugging in every fair way absolute bog of a course

played on March 1st and course in very poor condition, should have been closed as it was unplayable. This was by far the muddiest course I have ever played, lost balls in the middle of the fairway as they submerged in the mud, some greens were more like small ponds than greens, very poor tees, no grip at all.
All in all, the worst golf experience ever

Just been taken over i believe, and all green staff been finished up, they must have known for a while this was happening because the course is in a dreadful state, tees and rough appaling, stay clear of this course for a while id say.

If it was well looked after, it would be a good course, but unfortunately, it is not.

Course not at its best, hopefully back to normal soon. First time out after lock down, was expecting course to be in better nick, maybe ground staff furloughed.

Kirkby is a reasonable course for the price. They are doing a lot of work on the course and still needs a lot more. Pace of play was poor and no one let us through as a four ball.

Needs work

We went here on the advice of a few friends. They have clearly done alot of work to try and make it better and should be applauded for that. It is still a work in progress though. Single or teen handicappers will be a little disappointed. Good value though. Keep up the improvements
