went on a deal and wondered why it was so cheap ???the green were shocking and the service in the hotel was even worse ,the only glad thing was we got our tee time moved forewards so we could get the round over with, which was a same as the place was in a stunning location and would of been a memorable round;(

Booked via Teeofftimes for £17.50.

Arrived to find that the Pro shop is not much more than a small room downstairs out of the way. It gave the impression that the hotel had begrudgingly made room to squeeze it in. That was fortunately the only bad point. The club give out mandatory golf insurance for the day regardless of whether you have your own, a very good idea.

There is a warm up area compromising a 250 yard driving area and a fairly large putting green (although no mini pins just holes)

The course is over 6500 yards to a good pair of socks (perhaps even a spare pair) is needed for the round. The 1st hole is an inviting par 5 and gives the hope of a good start and the 2nd has the potential for an Eagle. For the majority the course is straight and you won't really find yourself getting into much trouble unless you are really wayward. There are a cheeky couple of well placed ponds, streams etc and with the course being so long you really need to avoid them. Hell the shortest hole is 173 yards off the gents tee. The overall condition of the greens were petty good despite there being a considerable aount of unimpaired pitch marks on several of them, although that ays more about the golfers than the greenkeepers.

The scenery is great and the course played at a steady rate but add on at least an extra half hour from normal due to the length (it really plays long).

If your a few shots over your normal handicap then you've had a good round. I play off 11 and went round in 87 + 2 lost balls so i walked away very happy.

Afterwards i nipped into the spike bar only to find that they stop serving food at 1700 but advised that i could go upstairs and get something in the restaurant, which i did. £13.50 for a cheeseburger and hand cut (proper) chips was fairly reasonable considering that the restaurant has 1 rosette.

Would i recommend this course??? YES
Would i go back??? YES
Would i recommend the food??? It was OK.

Great views and great layout. For a high handicapper like myself was a stiff challenge and as previously said, most time using woods/long irons so anything slightly wayward is gone. Long walk round but worth it with the views.

This is an excellant course in a beautiful setting and what should have been a nice relaxing round of golf was spoiled by three so called golfers before me who had no idea what Golf Etiquette is at all. As a single player normally you would think a three ball would have the common decency to let you play through and especially from the 2nd hole but no so lets hope no one has the misfortune to experience what I had too. Apart from this it is well worth a visit to Cardrona and especially on a nice sunny day.

As a fan of Dave Thomas course's I was looking forward to playing this course and I wasn't disappointed. The fairways were in tremendous condition an my only complaint was that 3 or 4 were just too wide and bland with no trouble until you reached the green. They could have done with either a couple of bunkers or even just some mounding. The greens were in good condition although a little slow. The changing facilities are good however could benefit from a tumble dryer to dry wet gear. Whilst I realise the hotel has a captive market in that part of the world the price of food and drink was a bit ridiculous. A Coke and an Irn-Bru £5.20 and then a Burger that starts at £12.50 and if you want a slice of cheese and bacon they are £1.25 each, for a slice of cheese!!!! would definitely play the course again and my overall rating is based on the course.

Good challenge for a short-hitting mid handicapper. Most fairways quite wide, but shot to green always provides a challenge with slope and/or bunkers. Only a couple of holes (like the 1st) where it would really help to know how to play the hole with previous experience. Fairways and greens in good condition. Greens a bit slow but pretty true.

Stunning views and a beautiful and well laid out course. Walk between greens to tees saves on confrontation from wayward shots and the scenery is breathtaking, if you enjoy that sort of thing. We played the course in an open comp as a texas scramble, which was a good way to enjoy the course for the shorter hitters. The greens were slower than some we had played in the area but were still true.
