The Grove

The Grove

The Grove is home to one of the finest and most prestigious golf courses in the whole country - and even further! Recently ranked as the number one golf resort in England, and 71st globally by the World Golf Rankings. To give a brief overview of the course's history, Tiger Woods won the World Golf Championship here in 2006. The Grove guarantees an amazing day out, and an even better weekend away if you plan on staying.

Review Comment: "I keep using the term 'experience' because what The Grove has to offer is far more than a round of golf. From start to finish you get properly looked after. They know how to do customer service at The Grove and it's a place I couldn't wait to go back to, the moment I pulled away."

Ashridge Golf Club

Ashridge Golf Club is one of the most well-known courses in the region, and for very good reason. The club was officially opened in 1932 and has regularly featured in the top 100 golf courses in the UK and was selected by the R&A to host an Open Championship Regional Qualifying Competition for six years between 2003 and 2008. Ashridge is also well known for its excellent hospitality and warm welcome.

Review Comment: "It is a superb layout, with a course always in outstanding condition, and great facilities in the clubhouse."

Porters Park Golf Club

Porters Park is a classic 6,529-yard parkland course constructed in 1899. Picturesque, tree-lined fairways make effective use of the natural contours and undulations of the land and, with magnificent greens and a brook weaving through many holes, the course conspires to present a fair but testing challenge to golfers of all abilities. The club has hosted regional Open Championship qualifying events on six occasions, is home to a number of prestigious amateur events, and is officially recognised by England Golf as one of Hertfordshire's finest courses.

Review Comment: "Played mid March but definitely coming back in the summer as it was in great condition for the time of year and I bet it will be unbelievable in a couple of months. Great layout with some really interesting holes, greens were quick and true."

Berkhamsted Golf Club

Berkhamsted Golf Course sits in an area of outstanding natural beauty, its fairways flanked by gorse, heather and trees. East Herts Golf Club

Renowned throughout Hertfordshire for its magnificent ancient trees set in the tranquil, rolling grounds of Hamels Park, overlooked by the impressive Hamels Mansion, the par 71, 6,440 yard course is laid out between numerous varieties of trees planted in the late 18th century and all waiting to catch the wayward shot. East Herts is an easy walking course, short between green and tee, rewarding the straight hitter and a good test of golf for the low and medium handicapper.

Review Comment: "Course was in excellent condition, like playing Wentworth without the cost. Clubhouse facilities and food were first class. Highly recommended and would definitely use again."

Brocket Hall Golf Club

Moor Park Golf Club

Hosting two Championship courses designed by Harry Colt in 1923, having played host to golf legends like Seve, Faldo, and Rose. Nestled in the lush parkland of Hertfordshire, Moor Park provides a perfect environment for a challenging round for all players. Also highly regarded for its welcoming atmosphere and extremely helpful staff on-site.

Review Comment: "Stunning clubhouse with great facilities. We played the high course which is a challenging parkland course with lots of ups and downs. The greens were lightning quick and the fairways slopey."

West Herts Golf Club

Set in the peaceful surroundings of the ancient Whippendell Woods with tree lined fairways and well bunkered greens. The course is renowned for the challenge of true, firm and fast greens. A warm and friendly welcome is guaranteed for all visitors, whether visiting for a casual round or with a society, you are assured a great day with West Herts.

Review Comment: "Hadn't played here for a while. Course was in good condition. Greens were decent and rolled well. Rough generally cut down which was a good thing. Clubhouse is nice and had a decent sandwich prior to heading out."

Bishop's Stortford Golf Club

Bishop's Stortford offers an attractive, undulating parkland par 71 course of 6,404 yards enhanced by a large variety of trees and flowering shrubs, it provides a challenging test for both average and low handicap golfers. With improved drainage the course runs perfect all year round, meaning there is never a bad time to visit.

Review Comment: "Great course, always in top condition even in winter."

Whitehill Golf Course

One of the finest rural golf courses the region has to offer. The course is undulating and well placed ponds and bunkers along with a variety of trees add to the well groomed fairways and greens. At 6,802 yards the par 72 course provides a stern test for the low handicapper whilst providing an enjoyable game for the higher handicapper. Firm greens and well draining fairways provide golf 364 days a year, where the challenge changes with the season.

Review Comment: "Well maintained with enough hazards to make it a challenging course that plays consistently. The day I played was sunny and dry after several days of fairly heavy rain. All the tees and greens played well. The course seems very well drained."

Brickendon Grange Golf Club

Brickendon Grange Golf Club is set within 160 acres of mature Hertfordshire countryside, in a spectacular yet peaceful location. The course offers a superb golfing challenge for all standards of player. The parkland course is rated as one of the finest in the south of England, and the 17th hole (the Ace of Herts) was recently awarded the title of 'the Finest Amateur Golf Hole in the UK.' The superb greens have a reputation for being some of the truest anywhere. The course provides a stern but fair challenge to those who take it on, be they the average club amateur or a PGA professional golfer. A round at Brickendon will stay in the memory for all the right reasons.

Review Comment: "Lush fairways, an interesting varied set of holes. Well manicured greens that will get faster. One of my favourite courses."

Aldwickbury Park Golf Club

Designed by former Ryder Cup player Ken Brown and Essex based course architect Martin Gillett, the Park Course is a well laid out 6,368 yard par 72. The combination of mature woodland, undulating parkland and lakes provides an array of challenges, enhanced by stunning views over the Lea Valley making it one of the finest golf courses in Hertfordshire. Aldwickbury also offers an attractive par 3 course and other practice facilities open all year round.

Review Comment: "I organised a golf day at Aldwickbury GC. It went well. The course was in great condition considering the recent inclement weather. The greens were good. The food afterwards was delicious, and members of the group commented on how good it was along with the service."

Sandy Lodge Golf Club

Since its romantic beginnings in 1910, the Harry Vardon designed course has remained true to its original layout and is the ideal place to play golf all year round.
