Review: Golfstream DV-8 Remote Control Trolley

By: | Thu 10 Dec 2015

The DV-8 is the flagship trolley in Golfstream's range of 100% British-built products.  The Golfstream product range includes the Evo, Duo, Revo and their top end DV-8 with all products 100% made and crafted in Britain.  The DV-8 remote is fully remote controlled up to a distance of 100 metres and also includes reverse steering.

We recently sent out Golfshake ambassador Andrew Pickenan to test out the trolley which is described as 'the ultimate golf trolley' and 'the closest you will get to having your own bag man'.

Golfstream DV-8 Review

Golfstream pride themselves on the 100% British design and made trolley ensuring supreme reliability & style which is also ergonomically designed.  If you are in the market for a luxury electric trolley then from the moment you use the DV-8 and see the attention to detail you will know that you have made the right choice.

The frame is beautifully engineered set off with anodised metallic details with the aircraft grade aluminum frame providing strength throughout. The central frame doesn't form part of the bag holding thus reduces any bag twisting or swaying.

The DV-8 is controlled by the remote control unit which fits beautifully into the hand and its ergonomics are to be applauded and this allows you to easily control the direction, speed and braking at distance.  The remote works through an easy to use controller which includes break. Should the control lose contact with the trolley, remember it will go up to 100metres, the trolley will automatically stop after 2 seconds (the aerial is hidden in the T-bar handle).

I was pleasantly surprised at how easily I came to understand its control functions and after a few trial efforts managed to cause a stir in front of the club house by causing the unit to pirouette gracefully around the patio.  It is possible to literally make this trolley dance!

Out on the course I found myself popping the unit into my back pocket when putting on greens, but I also stored the remote in my trolley bag when playing shots as I found the remote too large to be carried in a trouser pocket when making a full swing.

The trolley was sturdy and robust out on the course and you can see this throughout the design with the twin 200 watt motors (which are extremely powerful enabling excellent manoeuvrability of the unit at all times), anti splatter rear mudguards, anti clog front wheel, real wheel stabiliser for any tough up hill courses and fitted as standard with high grip wheels.

The mud guards were a great feature when travelling through puddles on paths as this dissipates the water away from the golfer or his equipment, and playing partners.  The fold-under zero-tip rear stabiliser wheel prevents the trolley from falling backwards on sharp inclines. Having tested the unit on several courses I agree that this feature is very helpful in maintaining the equilibrium of the trolley and its contents. And the fold-under anti-clog front wheel works suprisingly well again having used it recently in very heavy, muddy conditions.

Additionally the "Sprung" suspension system and design of the bag holding ensures the DV-8  copes with difficult terrain easily so there is no bag clatter as clubs knock into each other.

In terms of the battery I was very pleasantly surprised at the weight and size of the Caddy Cell lithium power source despite its ability to power what is a large trolley - its weight without battery is 12.7kg.  Charging the battery was super simple requiring only plugging the unit into the mains and then waiting until the indicator lights changes from red to green.

The DV-8 trolley was also excellent to set-up through the quick and easy bi-fold system which had the trolley set-up or packed away in seconds.  The wheels are fitted with pneumatic quick release system and the front and read wheels also fold under to make the DV-8 incredibly compact when being stored or transported. It is easy to load into and out of a car boot and folds up easily when not in use measuring 600mm wide, 810mm length & 380mm height when folded.

There is also a full two year manufacturer’s warranty on the trolley.

I used the trolley during several recent golf society matches and I was astonished at the level of interest it caused amongst my friends and golfing colleagues.  My golf society friends were also concerned with how long it would be before I mistakenly steered it into a water hazard.

I found out later that a book had been opened on the timing of my demise. I am pleased to say that the unit is so easy to use that at no time did I dunk it off the intended line into a lake. At the end of each round of golf I felt fresh and once the excitement of having a new toy to play with had gone I found it easy to operate and not a distraction from the quality of my golf.

At a RRP £799.00 this is not a cheap item and can only be described as luxurious. However, it is a real showstopper at the course and will attract a lot of interest from your fellow golfers.
