Ryder Cup Star Commits to Vietnam’s First Major Golf Championship
European Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia has committed to competing in the Ho Tram Open, which begins Thursday 3 December and will mark his first visit to Vietnam. Garcia will line up against stars such as 2011 Open Championship winner Darren Clarke and 15 time European Tour winner Thomas Bjorn in Vietnam’s first major golf championship.
Followers of the Asian Tour began to get excited after a picture was posted of Garcia donning the signature Ho Tram Open black tie outfit. Garcia confirmed his commitment by tweeting: “Really happy to be playing in Vietnam @HoTramOpen. See you all there #AsiasGrandestStage”
Garcia said: “Vietnam has always been an intriguing destination for golf and one I have been paying close attention to. We are blessed with a lot of great tournaments around the world, but the opportunity to experience a new destination, a new course and a new challenge is very appealing to me.”
Tickets for the event are being issued free of charge giving locals and travellers alike the opportunity to watch some of the worlds best golfers compete at the highest level.
Despite only opening in October 2014, the 18-hole links style golf course has been hailed as one of the best new courses in the world by one of the leading golf authorities in Asia.
Jed Moore, the tournament promoter of the Ho Tram Open, said: “Sergio is at the pinnacle of the sport, which coupled with his charismatic style and his spirit of entertainment give us the perfect package for the Ho Tram Open.
“The event will be a great advert for Vietnam and Ho Tram and with Sergio’s addition gives us even greater potential.”
Garcia, who is currently competing in the Fed Ex Cup Play Offs, has won a staggering 24 tournaments worldwide and will be looking to add another title, and his first in Vietnam, at the Ho Tram Open.
