Golf Comes to the Olympic Park May 15-16

By: Golf Shake | Wed 06 May 2015

community golfOn Friday 15 May 2015, Community Golf, in association with the Shoreditch Golf Club and with the backing of the Mayor of London, is delivering the first UK Cross Golf Open, showcasing golf but in an iconic urban location in London, far away from the traditional lush greens and fairways.

This first annual tournament will see players compete to win the Jeremy Feakes Memorial Trophy and a place representing the UK in the European Urban Golf Cup (EUGC), which will be held the next day, Saturday 16 May.Twelve places are up for grabs.

The EUGC is the biggest cross golf event in Europe. In 2014, the tournament was held in Cologne, Germany and saw 12 countries competing for the trophy, with Germany taking the title.

Community Golf believes this is a perfect opportunity to introduce golf to a wider community, bring people together through playing and volunteering, and share their love of the sport in all its forms.

With golf in the Rio Olympics in 2016 for the first time since 1904, this is a vital time for growth in the sport and this event will be the catalyst for many socio-economic benefits, which London can benefit from. The proposed venue – Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford is an ideal location for this fast growing sport, building on the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics. Spectators are welcome, free of charge.
