Cochrane Takes Reins at John Letters Academy

By: Golf Shake | Tue 27 May 2014

john lettersThe John Letters Academy at Cambridge Golf and Conference Centre, Huntingdon, has appointed the centre's former general manager, Ian Cochrane, as its new director.

Cochrane, 54, has worked within the golf industry for 34 years after switching from tennis because of injury. The father-of-four, who lives in Hilton, Cambs, has worked at the centre for the last 10 years - his final role there as general manager - and wants to use his new role as a springboard to grow the game of golf in the area..

He explained: "It will be my responsibility as academy director to deliver the best tuition possible at the John Letters Golf Academy - not just from me but from the whole team. We want to help existing golfers drive down their handicap, and to grow participation in golf within the area, by inspiring all generations - whether existing or new players.

"It's our aim to develop all golfers through personalised programmes of instruction across all aspects of the game - mental, technical and physical - and to provide instruction suitable for all abilities and disabilities to enhance everybody's enjoyment of their game.

"Personally, I retain the ambition to be recognised as a world-class golf coach - making the game simpler and more enjoyable for those who make it difficult - and also to try my luck on the European Senior Tour."

John Letters brand manager Simon Corp added: "Ian is a fabulous addition to the academy at the Cambridge Golf and Conference Centre. His work there previously, as general manager, was renowned locally and we believed he was the ideal person to step to the role of director and help further establish the John Letters Academy as the number-one teaching facility in the region."

John Letters has been producing golf clubs since 1918 and many prestigious golfers to have used the brand, including former Open champions Fred Daly, Paul Lawrie, Lee Trevino and Gary Player, Ryder Cup captains Dai Rees, Sam Torrance and Bernard Gallacher, and the current European Senior Tour order of merit winner Paul Wesselingh.
