Irish Golfer Makes Ace Performance with New Ball

By: Golf Shake | Fri 28 Feb 2014

bridgestone golfLess than an hour after being fitted for a new Bridgestone golf ball, Irish golfer David Donnelly was yesterday celebrating a hole-in-one at the Ashbourne Golf Club in County Meath.

Six-handicapper Donnelly was fitted for the new Bridgestone Golf B330-S ball with Hydro Core Technology on his way to the first tee at his home club, before putting the ball into play for the ‘Wednesday Invitational’ event. Some 50 minutes later, he hit a crisp 5-iron through a stiff breeze to ace the 162-yard, 5th hole – an eagle that helped Donnelly card a final net score of six-under-par to win the tournament.

“I’m delighted with the hole-in-one and extremely glad I made the ball change prior to the competition,” said the 44-year-old, who was fitted for the same ball as PGA Tour Matt Kuchar due to his similarly fast swing speed. “This is the first time I’ve been measured for a golf ball that suits my game and it’s safe to say the new one made a big difference on the day!”

Donnelly was one of 16 players at Ashbourne Golf Club to be measured for a new ball by Bridgestone Golf, who is recognised as the world’s No.1 ball fitting company with more than 250,000 fittings conducted across the globe.

Word spread like wildfire around the golf course and back to the clubhouse on David's ace, so I guess you could say he was pleased,” said Ashbourne’s PGA Professional John Dwyer.

The Bridgestone Golf Ball Fitting Challenge really impressed me and our members, who could clearly see the difference in performance between their regular ball and their prescribed ball. We’ll certainly be aiming to stage another ball fitting day in the future,” added Dwyer.

The Bridgestone Golf Ball Fitting Challenge aims to analyse golfers’ swing speed, launch angle and spin rates to determine the ball that delivers the most distance and accuracy for them as an individual. Bridgestone Golf doubled its schedule of ball fitting challenges this year across the UK & Ireland, while it has conducted more than 250,000 worldwide.
