Waste Management Phoenix Open Preview

We are this week assessing the golf betting opportunities in the field for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, taking !6th Waste Management Phoenix open place at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona.

TPC Scottsdale is a 7,216 yard par 71 and ranked as the 29th most difficult course out of 49 on tour in 2012. However, in 2013 Mickelson tore it apart with an emphatic winning total of -28 which was the lowest winning total since 2001. There are plenty of birdies available here, and taking advantage of those opportunities is the key skill this week. However, there are still plenty of places to trip up, so you also want a golfer who knows how to steadily make a par when their back is up against the wall, particularly from sand.

Players to watch...

Graham DeLaet

(40/1) ranks 12th for birdie average, 21st for par breakers and 1st for GIR from fairway bunkers.

Phil Mickelson

(14/1) withdrew last week with a back injury so we are a bit hesitant to back him this week, but as a three time champ here (‘96,’05,’13) we can’t overlook him. Has the perfect game here, ranking 7th for birdie average, 1st for sand saves and 12th for par breakers.

Charley Hoffman

(50/1) has made six cuts out of six events this year, including three top 10 finishes. For the 2014 season Hoffman ranks 21st for both birdie average and par breakers as well as 6th for GIR from fairway bunkers.

Hideki Matsuyama

(50/1) ranks 16th for birdie average, 18th for par breakers, 9th for sand saves and 19th for GIR from fairway bunkers.
