Seve Seals Faldo Series Victory in the Netherlands

By: Golf Shake | Wed 31 Jul 2013

faldoA course-record 66 on day one helped Severiano Prins to victory in the fourth Faldo Series Netherlands Championship. The 18-year-old Dutchman won a play-off to take the title after finishing on 13 under par alongside compatriot Vince van Veen.

“It was a tough victory as Vince is a good friend of mine but I’m delighted to have pulled through,” said Prins. “After watching the PGA Tour at The Greenbrier I can’t wait to get out there and meet up with Sir Nick and the other players.”

“We have had another great week with large numbers taking part,” added Tim Gorreê of organiser Support2Sports. “We are grateful to Sir Nick for this opportunity and also to our local partners, including Redline Golf and Bleijenbeek Golf Club, for their commitment to golf development in The Netherlands.”

Philip Bootsma also needed victory in a play-off to book his place in the seventeenth Faldo Series Grand Final. The three-time former finalist broke the course record for a second time after Prins with a final round 64.

Other age category winners heading to the World Amateur Golf Ranking event at the Greenbrier in West Virginia, USA include former finalists Roos Haarman (Girls’ Under-16) and Britt Steeghs (Girls’ Under-21). The fifth Grand Final spot went to Florian de Groot, winner of the Boys’ Under-16 division.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and the European Tour, the 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 15 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia, Greece and the USA.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2014, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona marks another significant step in the programme’s history.
