Graeme McDowell has claimed his third victory of the season after winning the Alstom French Open by four shots.
McDowell displayed real quality as he plotted his way away Le Golf National GC to shoot a final round 67, his lowest round of the week, to pull away from the competition and post a total score of 9-under-par.
Accuracy off the tee, superb iron play and control of his golf ball were features that separated the Northern Irishman from the field in France. McDowell finished first for greens in regulation, hitting a staggering 83.3% of greens throughout the week.
This latest win adds to his RBC Heritage
and Volvo World Match Play Championship
titles in 2013. As a result, McDowell moves into 2nd place in the Race to Dubai Rankings, with only a short gap to close over US Open winner Justin Rose, and sees him climb to 6th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
McDowell said: “This is such a difficult course here, we may have one of the greatest Ryder Cup venues in European golf history in 2018. I was thinking of the 18th hole all day and it was nice to have that cushion coming in. I struggled on the greens all week and didn't make many putts, but only making four bogeys all week was the key."
