Faldo Series Set to Arrive in Italy

By: Golf Shake | Wed 19 Jun 2013

faldoSir Nick Faldo’s global golf development programme will break new ground when the first ever Faldo Series Italy Championship tees off on July 18-20 at Golf Club Toscana in Tuscany.  With entries now open, the country’s top young golfers are set to benefit as they compete for a spot in the Grand Final.

“With the Faldo Series providing opportunity for more than 7,000 young people in 30 countries worldwide, I am delighted that golfers in Italy will benefit from our programme in 2013,” commented Faldo, a six-time Major Champion.  “I thank Golf Club Toscana for sharing our vision and we look forward to working with them to grow golf in Italy over the next three years.  The support of the Italian Golf Association is also very important.”

“We are very excited about hosting the first ever Faldo Series Championship in Italy,” said Christian Pulz, Manager of Golf and Marketing at the Golf Club Toscana. “We look forward to welcoming talented young golfers from across Italy to the Golf Club Toscana in July.”

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and the European Tour, talented young golfers aged 12 to 21 will compete over 54 holes for the first Italy Championship at Golf Club Toscana in Tuscany on July 18-20.  Competitors and local children alike will also spend time with Faldo’s personal coach, Keith Wood.

With World Amateur Golf Ranking points on offer, the field will be divided into five age-groups.  The winner of each division – three boys and two girls – will join Faldo at the season-ending 17th Faldo Series Grand Final.

The 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and Greece.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2014, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona is also home to the Faldo Series USA and marks the next significant step in the programme’s history.

Open to all nationalities, golfers born in 1992 or later wishing to enter the Faldo Series Italy Championship at Golf Club Toscana on July 18-20 should email [email protected] or visit www.golfclubtoscana.com.
