Gtour Gathering Pace and Heading North

By: Darren Ramowski | Wed 05 Jun 2013

Gtour 2012 Grand FinalAs the 2013 Gtour season reaches its mid-way point if the first half is anything to go by the rest of the year will continue to be a huge success and there is still time for players to earn those all important Order of Merit points.

With 5 events remaining before the 2013 semi-final, the tour now heads North visting 2 new venues, The Nottinghamshire Country Club and Formby Hall, alongside tour favourite Moor Allerton.

Known as one of the best amateur tours around, the Gtour is a fantastic mix of tour regulars and newcomers who are always made to feel  welcome and is open to both club and non club golfers.

Over the season the players are split into two competitive categories, awarded Order of Merit points from the events they play, the Eagle Flight and the Birdie Flight, and as it reaches the half way point for the first time in the tours history a lady golfer leads the way in the Birdie category as Gemma Allen’s name tops the charts.

Allen who has played in three out of the four events this season is loving every minute of it:

“Being from a club with a small ladies section we don’t get to play in many competitive competitions.  So this year I decided to find a tour that offered some great venues to play at and to be part of something that would challenge me.  I have played in 3 events so far and at every single competition I have been made very welcome.   The organisation of every event has been fantastic. There are some superb venues on the tour and they really do test your golfing ability. Leading the birdie flight midway through the season is a great feeling, especially as I am currently the only female on tour. Let’s hope I dont buckle under pressure, it would be great to be crowned the first female birdie flight winner”.

The Gtour started back in 2009 and continues to grow playing some of the finest courses in the UK and is continued to be supported by major sponsors including Aphrodite Hills, Bunker Mentality and new for this year GoKart

Players take part in individual events or at least 3 to be awarded points towards the  Race to Cyprus Order of Merit for the chance to compete in the semi-final and ultimately the Grand Final which takes place at Aphrodite Hills Cyprus.

Season So Far

The 2013 Race to Cyprus started in February at regular tour venue, De Vere Staverton Park and in true tour fashion it proved to be a fitting opener to the highly anticipated season.

A month later Stock Brook Manor, a new venue making it's tour debut, played host as a capacity of 60 players gathered at the Essex course which was an immediate hit.

The next two events in April and May took place at De Vere Wychwood Park and De Vere Wokefield Park both of which have held events since the tour began and once again showed why players of all abilities registered to take part.

With the season picking up pace the tour moves to Moor Allerton, Leeds in June followed by 2 days at Mentmore in July and then 2 further new and North venues at Formby Hall and The Nottinghamshire in August and September respectively.

The tour wraps up in November with a two-day semi-final  held again at De Vere Belton Woods where 20 golfers from each category compete for a place at the 2013 grand final held at Aphrodite Hills Resort in January 2014.
