Faldo Series Continues to Support Golf in Czech Republic

Organisers expect another record turnout for this year’s Faldo Series Czech Championship which returns to Telc Golf Resort in Telc for the third consecutive year on June 21-23.  Five winners will join Sir Nick Faldo at the season-ending Grand Final.

“The Czech Championship has been hugely successful with more than 100 competitors taking part in each of the first two years,” said Faldo.  “I thank Telc Golf Resort and its owners CZ Golf for their support in bringing the Series back to the Czech Republic for a third year.” 

“The Faldo Series is a great opportunity for young Czech players to experience international golf and is the highest level of our long-term project called Kids Golf," said Martin Šrámek, CEO of owners CZ Golf.  “We also look forward to the Series returning to Telc’s sister resort in Austria, Waidhofen, on July 5-7.”

With World Amateur Golf Ranking points on offer, more than 100 top young golfers from the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries will compete over 54 holes in Telc, located 130 kilometres south of the capital Prague.

The field of boys and girls aged 12 to 21 will be divided into five age groups – three for boys and two for girls – with the winners of each division joining the six-time Major Champion at the 17th Faldo Series Grand Final.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and the European Tour, the 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and Greece.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2013, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona is also home to the Faldo Series USA and marks the next significant step in the programme’s history.
