Carnoustie Voted Best Scottish Golf Course Over £100

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 06 Nov 2018

It's been quite a year for the Championship Course at the renowned Carnoustie Golf Links, having hosted the 147th Open in July won by Francesco Molinari, the famous venue is celebrating another accolade after it was awarded the title of Best Golf Course over £100 at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, voted for by the public.

Furthermore, the Special Recognition Award for Services to Golf Tourism in Scotland was awarded to Pat Sawers, Chairman of CGLMC, for her outstanding service and commitment to the Scottish golf tourism industry.

Craig Boath, Championship Course Head Greenkeeper said: “It has been a very good year for all the staff at Carnoustie Golf Links and to come away from the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards with the best course over £100 in such a tough category of excellent courses is the icing on the cake.

“We, as a team, are very proud of the standards we produce at Carnoustie Golf Links and we are over the moon that the Scottish Golfing public has voted us as one of the best.”

Speaking of her award, Pat Sawers, commented: “The presentation of the Special Recognition Award at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards ceremony came as a great shock to me. I regard this as a huge honour not only for me but as recognition of all the great work done by everyone at Carnoustie Golf Links. We take real pride in providing the local and visiting golfer with a first class experience.

“For me the work I do at Carnoustie Golf Links is very rewarding particularly being able to give back to the local area through our community benefit grants. This award is a lovely bonus and I certainly didn’t see it coming. It is a great way to end what has been a fantastic year,” continued Pat.

2018 has been an incredible year for Carnoustie Golf Links: in January Carnoustie Golf Links was awarded Environmental Golf Course of the Year at The Golf Environment Awards; in April the new £6million facility Links House, featuring The Rookery Bar & Restaurant and seven state-of-the-art golf simulators and situated next to the 1st tee, was opened; and in July it hosted The 147th Open, won by Francesco Molinari and welcomed a record-breaking number of spectators.

The Scottish Golf Tourism Awards are held annually to celebrate Scottish Golf and this year’s gala dinner was held at the Fairmont St Andrews and attended by more than 400 guests.
