The Best Driving Irons of 2018

By: Golfshake Editor | Fri 09 Feb 2018

As the upcoming golf season approaches, we have taken a look at the new releases that have emerged onto the market, bringing together the Best New Driving Irons of 2018.

Callaway X Forged UT Iron

The Callaway C Forged UT iron has a forged design that offers accuracy and control, giving better golfers the ultimate confidence to hit the fairway or green. The CG is strategically positioned in line with the centre of the face to deliver a lower, more penetrating ball flight and less curve.

The Tungsten insert is engineered for higher MOI, easy launch, and excellent control, and the hollow body increases the MOI even more in a traditional shape. To add, Callaway’s industry-leading 360 Face Cup pushes the COR right up to the USGA limit for increased ball speeds across the face.

COBRA KING Utility

COBRA’s KING Utility iron is the company’s first adjustable long iron that gives players the choice of playing as a 2 iron or a 3 iron, as well as eight adjustable loft settings to manage trajectory and fine tune launch conditions. All this comes together to maximise distance.

Placing 67 grams of tungsten weight low and back in the head creates an extremely low centre of gravity, which results in an easy launch. The Hollow Body construction has been engineered to save weight and reposition it low and deep in the head for improved forgiveness. Finally, the new face structure engineered out of Forged 455 Stainless Steel delivers maximum COR and produces faster ball speeds and improved launch for increased distance.

PING G400 Crossover

The PING G400 Crossover is PING’s second generation of Crossover and combines the precision and control of an iron with the ball speed and forgiveness of a hybrid.

The maraging C300 steel face promotes faster ball speeds, higher launch and 30% more stopping power, with upgraded acoustics. To add, a 20-gram tungsten toe weight increases forgiveness, resulting in 17% tighter dispersion. The bounce and camber have also been reduced to thin the sole and achieve more consistent turf interaction, which in turn offers more forgiveness. Furthermore, a forward CG placement helps generate 40% more spin and 45% less shot bend to ensure straight, stable trajectories.

Srixon Z U65

The Srixon Z U65 is Srixon’s best design yet in the utility iron market. The club offers unsurpassed feel with distance thanks to the 1020 carbon steel body, which is precision forged for the smoothest, most consistent feel.

The iron also features a high-strength SUP10 face insert for a greater ball speed and much more distance. It is also offers more spin control as all the irons features 5% larger grooves compared to the previous generation and Double Laser Milling. Combine, these improve contact, especially in wet conditions, for consistent spin control. Finally, the hollow construction allows weight to be repositioned low in the head for a higher initial launch.

Titleist T-MB

The Titleist T-MB is a uniquely designed utility iron that delivers distance at every loft. The hollow-body, multi-material construction utilises high-density tungsten and a thin unsupported face to create faster ball speeds, while still offering a Tour-validated look and feel.

The T-MB has improved CG progression for optimised launch and spin produces higher shots that go further but land soft. The iron was originally designed as a high launching, player’s long iron and still does that and more today.
