3 Hammers Youngster Secures National Skills Title at American Golf Show

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 09 May 2017

Spencer Worley, a regular at the 3 Hammers Golf Complex, impressed judges at the American Golf Manchester Golf Show to secure the prestigious AG Skills Skool Championship. The 13-year-old's nearest rival on the day came from another 3 Hammers player, Ed Whatmore, who finished runner-up in the national event.

The search to uncover the UK’s next golf super star got underway a month ago. It culminated live on stage under the careful gaze of TV and stage star Denise Van Outen and World Trickshot Champion Geoff Swain. Spencer, a star pupil at 3 Hammers Golf Academy, kept the crowd entertained with his impressive golf ball juggling and impressions of his favourite golfers; leftie Bubba Watson and England’s Luke Donald.

“As well as impressing us with his technique, Spencer was witty, confident and was able to easily rise to the challenge of performing under the bright lights,” explained Geoff Swain, World Trick Shot Champion. “It’s not easy to keep your cool on stage.  Spencer did a fantastic job and 3 Hammers should be really proud of both Spencer and Ed.”

Denise Van Outen, who played host to the entire event thoroughly enjoyed the performances and was on hand to present Spencer with his trophy and prize.  Upon securing the title, Spencer commented, “I have had such a great time here today.  It was quite nerve racking performing in front of such a big crowd.  Everyone did really well.”

Ian Bonser, Owner of the 3 Hammers Golf Complex, was at the golf show to support his players.  He commented, “We were so proud to see 3 Hammers Juniors performing so well.  There are so many brilliant youngsters playing golf in the region and across the UK.  We want to encourage them and recognise their talents, which is why these competitions are so important. I can’t wait to see what Spencer gets up to next!”
