Europa
We played the Europa course because I had read "A dramatic course but easier for the average golfer, with generous fairways, flatter terrain and slightly larger greens than Campo America and Asia."I think that is highly misleading. The fairways were not flat and Europa felt like it was built wherever they could fit it in and hence all the fairways were somewhat on the side of a hill, so even a good shot could end up rolling off sideways into hazards, so unfairly punishing a good drive. Unless you could place your tee shot fairly precisely it was something of a lottery.
Compared to the other courses we played (Rio Real and Torrequebrada) the fairway conditons were bare and hard and some of the greens were somewhat diseased, although they did run true.
Overall it felt like what it was, a busy large resort designed to get as many people on it as possible. Our round took about 5 and a half hours to play - we were queueing at nearly every tee and there were no marshals to do anything about it.

Lovely La Cala
All three courses at La Cala are always a challenge but a joy to play nonetheless. Great views of the Mediterranean if you're having an off day!(Round played: May 2018 - Score: 99 Handicap: 26)

Stunning location, tight undulating fairways, greens were a bit bobbly and some long carries just to hit the fairways. Not suitable for short hitters with no bail out options I was ok but others in the group struggled on some holes. 240 yards for a par 3 with no bail out is stupid for a resort course. A few tweaks and it could be great for all standard of golfers. Nice not to be surrounded by holiday apartments for a change

As a 20 handicapper I found each course very challenging. We started on the Campo America. A beautifully laid out course that I found the easiest. There are some breathtaking holes on all three courses, buy with my playing partner we liked this one the best.
We went on to play the Europa which has water and ravines on at least 8 holes, go off track here and you suffer as I proved. There were some holes that not only demanded that you be straight but you also better be long or your ball is a goner.
The last course was Asia which is slightly flatter than the other two but the fairways are narrower, though go off track and you probably would find your ball to drop out.
There is a deal to play all three courses for 150 euros, but you have to book and pay in advance and tee off before 10.00am. Otherwise it cost 57 euros to play each course which is far cheaper than other local courses (we played Mijas in between, we were charged 70 euros for a course that was in shocking condition, greens that were all over the place and generally we felt ripped off).
We are planning to come back and stay in the La Cala hotel as they have an attractive 1 week deal.

The golf cost us 150 Euros for the 3 rounds which included buggies, which I thought very good value and far cheaper than most courses in the area. The 3 courses were very different from each other - all very challlenging but not impossible for a 20 handicapper.
I am just waiting for the flight prices to come down a bit before I book again for this September!

A varied and challenging course given its relatively short length. Course condition a bit shabby in places but maybe because only in February.Reviewer Rating

Challenging Mountain Course
Beautiful course in the hills above La Cala de Mijas with deceptive hills and vallleys. Requires straight driving as anything slightly off fairway can roll to unusual positions leaving side hill lies or nestled in Bermuda grass.Reviewer Rating

Toughest course at La Cala; in good condition
Often cited as the easiest of the 3 courses at La Cala, it certainly doesn't play that way. Some very straightforward holes, like the 1st, but some of the most difficult on the property: 4th, 6th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th. You really need to play well here to score well. Condition was very good given the challenging weather through the summer. La Cala is a tough place to play golf but it offers probably the best value golf in the area.Reviewer Rating
