What the club says: The natural features of the La Cala terrain have been used to challenging effect by the renowned golf course architect, Cabell B. Robinson. The three courses are carefully maintained to ensure they are playable all year round. The North Course (now renamed Campo America) is perhaps more difficult than the shorter South (Campo Asia) but both demand great accuracy from the tee and careful club selection.
Meanwhile, the third golf course, Campo Europa, uses the River Ojen in making the course distinctive. The layout allows for plenty of water hazards. All three offer different challenges to all levels of golfers and demand good course management in addition to a wide variety of shots.

lovely 3 course hotel / resort
loved all 3 courses, they looked lovely and all played slightly differently, nice hotel, good bar area, bar food was good, breakfast was good too - club storage on course over night is always a bonus, and buggies included in the priceReviewer Rating

Best of the 3 courses at La Cala
I have played America a number of times and it is very enjoyable. A nice variety of holes - a gentle start but then it gets tough from #4 onwards. You need to be straight off the tee and with a number of blind shots it takes a couple of rounds here to figure the course out. Condition was very good although the greens had not been cut the day we played so weren't as quick as when we played the same time last year.Reviewer Rating

Great Course Lots of undualtions
Challenging course but enjoyable really makes you think with each shot where you can land it...only downfall was the reworking on a hole meaning it turned from a 5 into a 3Reviewer Rating

Europa
We played the Europa course because I had read "A dramatic course but easier for the average golfer, with generous fairways, flatter terrain and slightly larger greens than Campo America and Asia."I think that is highly misleading. The fairways were not flat and Europa felt like it was built wherever they could fit it in and hence all the fairways were somewhat on the side of a hill, so even a good shot could end up rolling off sideways into hazards, so unfairly punishing a good drive. Unless you could place your tee shot fairly precisely it was something of a lottery.
Compared to the other courses we played (Rio Real and Torrequebrada) the fairway conditons were bare and hard and some of the greens were somewhat diseased, although they did run true.
Overall it felt like what it was, a busy large resort designed to get as many people on it as possible. Our round took about 5 and a half hours to play - we were queueing at nearly every tee and there were no marshals to do anything about it.

One of the best courses in the area
This was the 4th time playing this course. It is the most playable one at La Cala with fewer blind shots than the other ones and a bit more space off most of the tees. It is a great layout, great fun but challenging to play. The course condition is exceptional - the first three greens seemed quite sandy but the rest looked great and they all rolled fast and true. A must play in the area but you need to be straight off the tee if you want to score well.(Round played: Oct 2021 - Score: 76 Handicap: 4)

Physically and mentally challenging but a great course nonetheless
This was the 3rd time I had played La Cala America and it certainly helped to know the course better this time around. The course, despite all the play it gets, is in great condition, with nice sand in the bunkers, immaculate tees and fairways and quick, true greens. The America course is the most playable of the 3 at La Cala but you still need to be on your game with narrow fairways in places, few bail-out areas and lots of steep run offs around the greens. Make sure you don't play off the back tees unless you are a single figure handicapper. La Cala is certainly the premier resort to play in the area (closely followed by the more playable Mijas courses).(Round played: Oct 2019 - Score: 78 Handicap: 3.8)
