course is brilliant only downside were Course starters and Marshalls worrying about alleged slow play when no one was being held up.

5 star hotel and a great golfing location. Three courses, Championship (Henry Cotton), Resort and the Academy. Quite a flat course for the area but not easy. Great practice facilities, grass driving range, pitching/chipping area and a couple of putting greens. Well worth a visit if you are near enough to get there.

Had to play the resrt course as I didn't have a handicap certificate so couldn't get on the championship course. It's 9 holes with 18 tees - a decent test an helpsvery much if you get your tee bal on the fairway.

Very wet but decent all things considering.

We have had horrendous rain here of late as such the course was just about playable. Noticeably a couple of local courses have closed. Back 9 was drier than the front 9. We had a slow round and had to miss 2 holes out as we had 2 four-balls in front of us ( we were 2 in a buggy ) who didn't offer us through. But the greens are excellent and are all year round. Just at present the course like many others is suffering with the rain. Staff as always excellent and welcoming.

I found this course rather boring for such a well known and established course.

I kept getting deja vu, as I approached many of the tee boxes, as so many looked the same.

There was no wow factor about any of the holes.

However we really should have warmed up before we played. We fell into the trap of "The course is empty, do you want to go now?"

We should have said, "No we are early. We will share a basket of balls on the range".

As it was, it took me 5 holes before I loosened up.

Nice course - some water, lots of bunkers, quite deep sand in some of them. Greens were marked and tired as were the tee boxes. Lovely setting, quite flat.

A Championship course mmmmmmmmmm! Not sure. A lot of holes just straight, course not much character. When I played, greens had been top dressed and spiked, so they were not really true. When 'dressed up' for a championship though it probably looks and plays better

Very disappointed with our round at Penina. Despite having booked a buggy in the UK we arrived and were told we had to wait for a buggy. We waited almost an hour for a buggy and the staff in the pro shop were less than helpful or sympathetic. In saying that the guy that got us a buggy was very helpful. But I was very disappointed with the course too. The fairways were shabby in parts and the greens not in good condition with pitch marks all over that had been left unattended. I was so looking forward to playing a championship course and felt it was left wanting - such a shame.

Quite possibly the worst course I've played in my life. Greens in atrocious condition, fairways very unkept and barely discernible from the rough. Penina should be embarrassed to offer this as part of any golfing package.

We played the Championship Course on the 22nd October as part of tour eight of us were on in the Algarve. I am afraid we were all extremely disappointed in the overall condition of the course with the tees in poor condition fairways bare and muddy and lacked definition. Overall a resort course that was living on past reputations which is past it's best and requires a huge amount of TLC to get it back into a semblance of order. Overall impression all eight agreed not one to visit again.
