Poor

This place is in need of some TLC. The pro shop is like a tuck shop. The chipping practise area is an overgrown mess, that looks like someones back garden. There derelict buildings dotted about, all very weird. The tees are a muddy lumpy mess, the bunkers are all covered in weeds, you get the picture. For ?35 this is a very expensive joke of a course. However the bar and food were excellent.

Nice course

Nice course, you can make it be a challenge if you want to. Good introduction to difficulty for newer golfers.

Nice course, congested at weekends.

Nice course.
I was due to play an 18 but decided early, along (along with 3 other groups waiting) that the four ball ahead were too slow and wrecking it for everybody. I guess that is Saturday afternoon golf for you but group behind me had no tee time and were just let straight on, so this explains why it was so congested. I was quite calm but there were a couple of lads back really losing it.
I enjoyed the course, some nice water holes and was already warned at check-in that the tees weren't the best, but they seemed ok.
I would come back and play an 18 here because the course was a challenge and in pretty good condition, but it would be early morning or midweek.

Nice course

Nice course, greens a bit fluffy today. Out in the sticks but worth a visit. Clubhouse busy but not many on the course.

Really enjoyed this course. Tree lined on most holes and a good mix of par 3's, 4's and 5's. Course was in good condition and tests all parts of your game.

In great condition

We played this course two months ago and it was in very poor condition so had a word with the manager who apologised and asked us to come back for a complimentary game and assured us there would be a massive improvement. I am happy to say that we played on Wednesday 24 October and he was tru to his word and the course was in fabulous condition thank you Rob Weston A+++

First played at Gatton Manor in the early 1980's and had not visited for about 20 years. Booked for a one night stay and 3 rounds. Course on the whole was in good condition, greens were 'patchy' and 'bobbly' in places but otherwise okay.
Looked after very well by the staff.
This course always was, and still is, tough and tight. Heavily wooded and lots of 'in play' water hazards. This is a tough test for average hackers but is obviously popular with them due to good deals offered by the club. So the rounds were very slow.
The course would really benefit from a 2 Tee start. Separating 2 balls from 3&4 balls. 1st and 10th tees are next to clubhouse, so surprised they haven't implemented. It would cut 5 to 51/2 hour rounds by at least an hour. Our 2-ball had a mixture of 2, 3 and 4 balls in front of varying standards who alternated between yellow and white tees whenever they felt like it. So course needs marshaling just to help keep the pace of play moving.
I liked the course and it's a great test of your game but probably won't return unless speed and etiquette improves.

Course in good condition. Looks quite open but needs treating with respect to avoid hazards. The green have no flat areas so approach shots need to be planned. Do this and you can score well. Very good value for money, I will be back

Fantastic course in absolutely first class conditions - best bunkers I've played for a good while, and fairways and greens in excellent nick. Its a bit of a trek to get to the course but well worth the effort, clubhouse perhaps a bit dated but that is the only minor criticism, everything else absolutely fantastic. An open course but stray off the track and you'll probably have lost your ball...

Great layout but disappointing condition

Really good challenging layout. Long but playable. Tees and fairways pretty good.

Greens poor though for late August and bunkers seem to have been abandoned (full of weeds!)

Needs some work putting into it! Wouldn’t rush back…

(Round played: Aug 2021, Handicap 8.3, score terrible!
