Good but deceptive

On the face of it this is not a very long course even off the back tees. However it undulates a lot so whilst the distances as the crow files may be x, the reality is a lot longer. Greens were not particularly quick compared to what I am used to, but there are lots of subtle slopes etc which makes putting far from straight forward. Overall a good course to play and a decent challenge. Its probably best to play with somebody familiar to the course the first time around. ?25 for a midweek round with a member.

Enjoyable Day

We enjoyed playing the course. Bunkers & greens in excellent condition. The fairways needed cutting in places, but it was apparent that they were being left to grow after being burnt up in the heat wave. Pick & Place was in operation. We felt that additional signage is needed on some holes. We came away resolved to return

I am a member here. I would say the course, clubhouse & facilities compare very favourably with other local courses. The course is not exceptionally long overall but it is far from easy. Most of the par 3s are about 190 yards and a couple of the other holes play very long, particularly the 1st (466 yards par 4 into the prevailing wind) and the 600 yard par 5 17th. Most of the fairways are quite tight and side slopes mean that accurate driving is essential. The course is exceptionally well kept and although there are mats on the par 3s in winter it is very rare that the main greens are not in play. The course is often open when others are closed. The clubhouse is friendly (not stuffy), the pros are helpful (and good teachers) and the half-way house is the best I know for a bacon roll or homemade soup. Those considering membership will value the fact that (apart from Sunday morning) they can just turn up and play with no booking required. Those looking for a course to visit for the day should definitely give it a try.

Played a few days ago. I'm in the processs of looking for a new club and this was on the list. Not any more! Pro was quiet and generally a little unhelpful (more interested in chatting to a friend), Some interesting holes and long par 3's but the majority were shortish and/or straight par 4's. Condition was fair but course improvements are limited since I last played here 7-8 years ago. Empty in clubhouse afterwards. Expensive GF - Perhaps everyone in WGC goes cycling these days.

Very well maintained throughout the winter and consequently in excellent condition in early spring. Well done the ground staff.

I am a member and agree with the other members comments. WGC GC suffers from it's limited length in the modern game and is a little straight. Grounds staff do a good job managing this with mowing patterns against the direction of play, narrowing fairways and keeping slick greens but I suspect, with ever advancing technology, this will become an increasingly redundant course for younger longer players. You can only dine out on it being Nick Faldo's first course for so long! Membership is heavily weighted to the older generation and as such rounds can be very slow at peak periods. Members / visitors also seem to be unaware of course etiquette with pitch marks and stray balls being a real issue! Unfortunately, the problems are further exacerbated by some poor choices for committee members who seem to be interested in personal gains rather than the improvement of the club. I shall be moving on this year.

I'm a member at W.G.C. golf club and find the course changes dramatically from week to week. Unfortunatly for non-members green fees have increased because of the great demand of money to keep the club going. The course, like in th description, has narrow fairways but this is contemplated by many flatish greens with only the 10th posing a great challenge for a putt. The greens also hve many big humps in them eg. the 2nd.

Fabulously well kept course. Forgiving & lush fairways & great greens. Maybe not too many interesting or individually styled holes but enjoyable & recommend trying once.

Pristine

Really enjoyed playing here for the 1st time. Wide open & lush fairways, excellent greens. Not too many distinguishable holes ie a little samey but that’s a minor quibble. Great value & superbly kept. Unfortunately ran out of time to make the bar due to a slow 4 ball not letting our 2 ball through.

Undulating course the inclines of which can punish you if not factored in. Greens are small and challenging so the short game has to be on it. Well placed bunkers provide an additional challenge to the approach play to the small greens. I really enjoyed this course as it makes you think about your shots.
