As a society we have played here for many years. Played this April and the Course was in shocking condition and greens were a joke. We were not told about condition before playing and were hassled for money before playing which meant we ended up paying for more people than actually played because of some dropouts. All agreed we will never be going back here as a society, so well done verulam you have lost a society because of your appalling service.

My local course

Although I am a member elsewhere I have played here quite a few times with friends who are members. The greens are faster than they look and have plenty of undulations. On the first three holes the greens slope away from your approach so you need to land it short and run it on. The fourth tee is right behind the third green! The fourth fairway crosses the 9th. The fifth and sixth are dog legs so playing with a member is helpful. On the 16th tee you face a huge bank onto a concave fairway.17th is a pitching wedge over the road. 18th is a big par 5 especially into the wind. Not my favourite course but good to play other courses for a change, and the company is always first class.

Living on its Sam Ryder history

Played here approximately 10 times with member friends. Apart from the 14th by the cress beds and the massive 18th, not a special course. Two fairways cross!! and a pitching wedge par three over the public road. Well kept but not special. There are so many better courses in the area.

Some greens were very poor shape , temps in March ?!! Heavy sanded some too . No two greens were the same . All temp tees too . No kitchen facilitates , and still paid full price . Won`t be back unless in summer time .

Verulam golf

Unfortunately the weather was very wet and it was quickly evident why it was carry only. There is also an amount of work being carried, including new bunkers. Would like to go back in the summer as I believe it will play very differently.

Over priced..

A course that trades on the fact Samual Ryder was a member, but that's about a the best thing about it. To be fair the Greens were good, consistent and true and the fairways were decent but the course itself is a strange layout. Crossing fairways, crossing and playing over roads is a bit disconcerting. The members aren't very welcoming and are very ?up them selves? making it a little awkward at times. There are better courses to play in the area, so unless you have a burning desire to play here, go play one of the other better courses around St Albans/Harpenden.

Played for first time last Friday. Pleasant course although some holes are played blind from the tee. A couple of holes have fairways crossing around where drives would be landing. Short hole over a road is slightly odd. Greens were tricky but generally in fairly good condition. Some areas still recovering from last year's hot dry summer.

Nice course although always seem to end up crossing the road. Lacks any water feature. Nice and open for long drives. Greens are challenging but we'll looked after

As always Verulam poses an interesting test for the medium handicapper, with reasonably tight fairways and greens that take a lot of getting use to. The pro shop and club house are welcoming and the staff are very pleasant.

Nice course with new bunkering on back 9 making the course both tougher and more attractive. Greens as always are difficult with good pace (even in the rain) and many subtle borrows. Hard to play to Handicap which is a sign of a strong course.
