What the club says: The course is truly unique, with 9 of the fairways being narrowly sculptured out of the ancient forest, pleasantly contrasting with 9 wider and winding fairways. Subtly borrowed greens are guarded by strategically placed bunkers, all of which make this par 68 course a real challenge for all standards of player.

Fantastic Course

Lovely little challenging course, great hospitality.

Tricky greens to put on but generally a fun round.

nice short course but not easy, if you hit it well off the tee here you have a good chance of scoring. greens were firm but in good condition.

Very nice course

I have played at Theydon Bois a number of times over the years and I played there in April 2019. Although it's a fairly short course, some of the holes are fairly challenging especially on the back 9. It's a very picturesque course and my friend and I always enjoy playing it. The clubhouse staff were friendly and the food was good. We will definitely be back.

So friendly. Excellent course

I played with my dad on 29/8/18. Course was in good condition considering the recent weather. What was most memorable about the club was the fantastic hospitality. Everyone we spoke to was charming and helpful. We also had one of the best ploughman's we've ever had. 7 cheeses! Would highly recommend

Leave the Driver at home

Quirky little course but leave your Driver and Woods at home.
Upon arrival the guy in the pro shop was very helpful and described the course in detail to us, recommending shot to play on certain holes. This was very useful and helped on a number of holes.
Most holes are short and are dog legs, cutting the corners is not an option. Therefore a mid-long iron off the tee then a mid-short iron in is the best play.
All fairways are lined with trees. Greens were in good condition. Tee boxes could do with some work.
Overall a tricky course that needs some thinking.

Why haven't I played this course before

The course was in very good condition and although not long was very challenging. Having discovered this gem, I will be back to play it again and again.

Lovely course

First visit and very impressed. Not very long, but takes some serious management to get round successfully. If you like smashing it into wide fairways, go somewhere else. If you want a real test of your golfing skills give this one a go.
Great reception from Frances (catering) and Kevin (Pro). Food was damn good too.
It was very wet / muddy in places (well it was November) so the course condition rating suffers a bit for that, but most of the greens were in very good condition.

Short but challenging course

I have played Theydon Bois a number of times over the years and have always found it to be a very challenging course. It's a really lovely parkland course with lots of trees making it quite tight. Excellent course in dry weather, a bit sticky in the wet. Good food in the clubhouse and friendly staff.

Short course

Nice for ladies - if you are a longer hitter then not a course for the men. Ladies also tee off with the men and sometimes behind the men so I don't understand that the golf world knows men are stronger than women and women should have their own T boxes.
