What the club says: Abridge Golf Club is a typical parkland layout set in the rolling countryside of Essex. At nearly 7,000 yards, this course is quite long and as a result is quite testing if played off the back tees. From the yellow tees, the course is much more playable for the higher handicap golfer, making it accessible to all golfers.

Most Helpful Review

I was told that the fairways here were good. They weren't just good, they were probably the best fairways I've ever been on. Well, when I found the fairways anyway... The tees and greens were likewise in excellent condition.

The terrain is generally very undulating, and I'm not sure that there are many holes which you'd describe as flat. The fairways are generally fairly generous, but there are a few which tighten up a little. I don't remember a lot of holes where you could see the flag from the tee, so be prepared for a fair number of doglegs.

What you won't get are any bad holes. I'm pretty safe in saying that you will enjoy playing here, from the warm welcome you receive in the pro shop, to the final putt at the 18th, this is just an awesome place to play golf.

Essex Gem
Played a charity day at this Henry Cotton designed course which is a good challenge in the countryside with peacocks running around each hole. Most holes tree lined Large greens and tees kept in good condition.

Abridge - Fri 20th April
Really enjoyable round, course was good but greens need work for sure, but that is to be expected and understood considering recent weather.

Will be great in the summer
Played on a Sunday afternoon the week after all the rain. Very very wet under foot. No fairways cut so quite long grass. Greens were patchy. Very hilly and lots of dog leg holes . Good pace of play considering the conditions. ?22 each of the net. Defiantly play again but when it's dryer. I think it could be great dry. Good atmosphere in the pro shop.

Not as good as last year
The course clearly doesn't soak up the rain well. Although it had rained for much of the last 2 weeks the previous few days had been dry but this course was almost unplayably wet. Greens not in great condition either with signs of disease. Shame because this course was stunning last year. Will give it another try after a dry spell

First time playing here and had a friendly welcome in the pro shop, car park was very busy and later found out there was a club match going on after us. Fairways in places were very soft so expect a few plugged balls. Greens were well kept and good speed. Very busy but didn?t affect pace of play too much, we played through a four ball once which held things up a bit bit but overall pace was good (we were a three ball). Can?t comment on food and drink as we didn?t use the clubhouse. Cost ?30 mid day tee time on a Sunday. Forgiving course but will be better once it dries out a bit. Couldn?t practice before our round as the driving range was closed which was disappointing.
