Could be better
This is a lovely course, but has recently undergone maintenance on the greens (slitting) so they're not very good atm. Also, most of the holes were being played off temp tees. Buggies and trolley weren't allowed on fairways. The second hole is closed and is replaced by a pitch a putt hole between 8&9. All of which might have been acceptable if we'd been told that before we went out.
Why can't golf clubs just be honest about the condition of their course and communicate with visitors ahead of tee off. This was a disappointing visit to a course I've enjoyed very much in the past.

Promised much delivered less
Had heard a lot about how good this course and was less than enamoured, unusually I could not remember several holes and coulldn't think of one that captured the eye. Wolld play again to give the course a chance as sometimes they grow on you.Reviewer Rating

Don't get the hype
Never played here before, always been put off by the green tee price & had heard it was a little snobby, but found a cheap deal on TeeOffTimes and thought “why not”.Immediate bad taste in the mouth when one of the guys I was playing with was told he had to buy and wear a pair of white socks from the pro shop because he’d worn black ones. We were the last group off all day, hardly anyone there, does it really matter? And people wonder why the numbers participating in golf are shrinking, this kind stuff puts people off.
The course, nice enough but nothing special, and a silly amount of holes that were the same: tee off from an elevated point down into a valley then hit next/approach shot up to an elevated tee that has drop offs. Course not in particularly good condition, bobbly greens and unkempt fairways, appreciate the extreme weather we’ve had this summer but cheaper, busier courses have coped better than this. Opening 8 holes are probably the most difficult I’ve played which isn't a complaint at all.
In short, I probably won’t return, especially with Toot Hill just down the road which is cheaper and vastly more interesting and in better condition than here.

Not as good as last year
The course clearly doesn't soak up the rain well. Although it had rained for much of the last 2 weeks the previous few days had been dry but this course was almost unplayably wet. Greens not in great condition either with signs of disease. Shame because this course was stunning last year. Will give it another try after a dry spell(Round played: Apr 2018 - Score: 96 Handicap: 19.7)

Bit disappointed
I was very eager to play the course after reading some good reviews. Booked a twilight 5:30 tee time over the phone. Upon arrival we were charged peak rate, as there were no twilight fees. We also arrived early to hit some balls on the range. We were told the range was closed, so we reluctantly made our way to the practice green. Upon walking to the first tee, we could see a number of members hitting balls on the range! The course itself started well and I was impressed with the first 4-5 holes. However, a pattern soon emerged. Elevated tee - played onto a valley fairway - approach into a raised green where you couldn’t see the bottom of the flag. Whilst this layout is fine, the repetition became a bit of a joke with my playing partner... “Oh look, another valley hole”.
The greens were true and the majority of fairways were in good condition. However, I’ve played many better layouts for less money.

A worthwhile visit
The course was in excellent condition despite recent fairway tining. I thought the greens were excellent and are very much part of this course?s defence. Raised relatively small contoured greens are challenging and in excellent condition. We were well looked after for a very reasonable fee. I would certainly visit again.Reviewer Rating

Super course with a hint of snobbery
Course is in a great condition, fairways are green and the greens are running true. The only hole that was below par was the 11th hole with the fairway being patchy and brown and the greens un-kept. Other than that I could not fault the course and would recommend it to anyone as one of the best in Essex. The only negative was the 'white socks' rule. A friend was told he could not wear his grey trainer socks as all socks have to be white, therefore he had to purchase a pair from the pro shop. A ridiculous rule in my opinion, seeing as we saw many other people walking around looking very scruffy.

Nice layout.
Played in early June. Always a nice layout and good condition. Greens were very slow although I guess there was little the ground staff could do if lots of rain previous week.(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 89 Handicap: 10.4)

Badly in need of refurbishment
Nice course and friendly staff in the bar. Nice food. Overall though, considering the eye-watering green fees, the place really needs some improvement. The car park stinks of sewage or stagnant pond, the buggies max speed is about 5 mph, they emit fumes which are unpleasant but they do have USB charging sockets which is surprising. The staff in the Pro Shop were business-like without being particularly welcoming(Round played: May 2018 - Score: 100 Handicap: 24.2)

However, not such a positive experience this time round with all the ancillary bits to the round. Clubhouse looks like a mini mfi from the outside, getting shabby. Bins overflowing. Young Assistant pro gave me the wrong code for the visitors changing room, wasn't interested in helping me get in other than sending me to another door that was locked. Followed on the front 9 by greenstaff with a strimmer and leaf blower playing tunes in unison, oblivious to anyone trying to play a shot. Why not work round the course backwards? Worse, and this happened on my last round here, ran into the modern cancer of golf, several senior 4 balls, who had started on the back 9. Last 6 holes took as long as the previous 12. All of which left a sour taste. Staff training and better organisation required.

Overall I thought it was goood but, if I was playing on a weekend at the price of £75 i would say I would have been dissapointed. For that money I would want better than standard greens and fairways which on this day the course wasnt.

Good points - well watered, well-kept greens, tees well-maintained
Bad points - very slow despite very few players on the course. The people in front of us were late to their tee time, then proceeded to play from the white tees, despite not being good enough to attempt it. They could have let us play through as they had no-one in front of them. The course was being mowed during our Saturday afternoon game, but the staff were pretty inconsiderate. One hole was completely spoiled because of a tractor's continuous reversing warning, and it throwing up grass and dust onto the women's tee.
