The course isn't in the condition I would expect to find that charges £900 a year for membership. More money need to be spent on the course.

Between the 3 of us playing we found a few of the bunkers. Mainly they consisted of more like shingle and sand. Just 2 metres off the fairway and you were in long grass that slowed play. A nice course but taking everything into account, overpriced for what it offers.

Played this track a few times. This is by far the worst I've seen it. Very scruffy. Disappointed as it has good potential. Clubhouse is basic but green of £12-50 can't really complain

Reasonable value I had thought until I played the course.
Greens were awful and really could not be trusted on short putts. Bunkers had next to no sand in them.
I was disappointed as I hadn't played here before and was looking forward to it.

Fairways are patchy and unforgiving, not what I expected. Rough is very long. Greens are nice but fast and ball will roll off so have to try an hit it short to roll onto green from fairway. Don't mean to moan just was expecting better. Score: 98 no handicap

The course is built onto a large Valley, hence the name. With plenty of undulating fairways and hills to traverse, you had better make sure you bring your comfortable golf shoes.
The soil is unfortunately quite chalky, meaning the greens suffer quite badly during the summer months, they become hard and dry. This means that stopping the ball for the average golfer is almost impossible. You would be well advised to aim for the front of the green and allow the ball to roll up to the target. Once on the putting surface you can really see the effects of having such a hard soil underneath. The balls tend to bobble and skip rather than rolling evenly when putting, which is for any golfer a real frustration. The course however, is a superb option for winter golf. Due to its natural drainage the course is seldom waterlogged or boggy. I rarely play any other course during the winter months for this reason alone.
The rough is cut back during the winter but is allowed to grow during the summer, giving it a decent defence as the balls start to fly further which would normally expose the main weakness of this course, which is its length. At 5629 from the yellow tees it really is a short course by modern standards. Due to the short length of the course, the greens have been well protected by bunkers on most holes. Unfortunately these bunkers are full of stones and the sand is inconsistent at best, something that really penalises this course.
Be warned, unless you are playing during the late afternoon or early evening at the weekend, you will be waiting on almost every tee. This is because of the price (£25 per round) & lack of tee time structure.
Overall, as a practice course it is well worth a visit. I’d recommend it to any novice golfer. However the lower handicapped golfer would most likely be frustrated by the greens and the constant waiting to hit their tee shots and second shots. As for winter golf, it really is a good practice course when other options are too wet to play.

Good value for money (cheap!) but quite busy and greens rather worn. Friendly clubhouse but lacked atmosphere. Would go back.

The course is rather good it's on chalk and drains really quickly in bad weather, which, it has a lot of, as it's right on the river and we have been there several times in summer and winter.

However, I have been very disappointed with the club house on the occasions that I have been there. The bar staff were very nice but there is a lot of swearing and card playing, it has the feel of a men's drinking club rather than a golf club bar. Also, you never know when food will be available. Often you cannot get anything after 4pm not even a sandwich, I have tried the club house a few times now just in case our experience was a 'one off'.

To be honest the 'men's club' feel of the place puts a real downer on our day and even though we are a group of guys, when we go into a clubhouse, all we want is a drink and a chat about the game with each other and the members who know the courses better than us.

So we would go and play golf but we would definitely give the club house a miss.
