What the club says: Sheringham Golf Club was formed in 1891 as a nine hole course, which was extended in 1898 to a full eighteen holes. The course is laid out on the west side of the town on a strip of rolling, gorse-clad clifftop that lies between the preserved North Norfolk Railway and the North Sea. Noted for its long par 4 holes it is a severe test of players' ability, especially when the wind blows!

Fabulous
Definitely one of my favourite tracks. Starts off fairly ordinary then you go over the hill and boom! The most fabulous views and holes. Pray that the wind is down because it can cause havoc. This is rated as a top 100 club for a good reason. In addition to which the staff are so friendly and the food is top notch.

What Train?
I love Sheringham and its links to the past heritage and traditions of the game of golf. It has featured in many important events and yet is still thriving to improve. the clubhouse is excellent, old world charm with great food and welcome. its setting is simply superb with some of the greatest coastal views in Uk golf. The proximity of the steam train line to the course boundary adds immensely to the pleasure of the venue. This is a proper links type course with some jaw dropping vistas and views offering challenging golfing conditions. totally agree with the Must Play assessment. If you haven't played here yet make the time and do so I guarantee you will not be dissapointed. I am already planning a return trip it is that good!Reviewer Rating

Not a bing fan of teeing of over other holes especially greens.
Some lovely holes, especially with the steam train chugging past.
Some members need to learn some basic manners as they let the course down.

Sea, trains & Golf
So, with steam trains chuntering up and down one side of the course and cliffs and the north sea on the other, what's not to like? Well thought out course with plenty of features - avoid the walkers and the gorse and you will be OK!Reviewer Rating

Good but?
I always look forward to playing at Sheringham and always find the links course challenging and enjoyable, but it's not in the greatest of nick at the moment. They seem to be doing work around the course clearing away overgrown areas and when we played all bunkers were GUR. They were in a terrible state! Nobody provided any explanation and one would have thought a discount should have been applied to the green fees, but none unfortunately. I will be back but let's hope it's in better nick next time.Reviewer Rating

Fantastic, pay for quality!
brilliant links course, up and down along the cliffs of North Norfolk. Amazing setting and course in great condition in June. Wind coming in quite well off the sea, so some drives you had to aim out to sea slightly and watch it get blown back inland, quite unnerving but great feeling when you land it on the deck!(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 80 Handicap: 14.6)

Tougher than a well done steak
Amazing course, great practice facilities, friendly locals. a tad expensive at £120 a round but when you play you can see shy. It's a course you need to play a few times to get the hang of the layout and distances and although i played poorly (22 points) i would definitely play again.(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 98 Handicap: 13.9)

Exceptional Course
Fantastic course with great views of the sea on many holes. Every hole is a challenge, but gives the average golfer a chance. Greens are well kept. And to cap it all you will hopefully see the steam train power by, especially on the 1st and 17th holes.Reviewer Rating

A tough challenge
This was the first course on our trip and on a windy day it was a tough challenge. Glad we had buggies and it can be steep, and they give you more time to find your ball on a typical links course. Greens were fast and deceptive. Really enjoyed it. Bonus is the steam train line running alongside the course!Reviewer Rating

Wait till you get to the fourth
To be frank the first three holes here aren't that special. But just hold your nerve until you get to the fourth. From that point on it's stunning all the way home. The long par fours, are beautiful and brutal in equal measure, especially into the wind.
There's truly a stunning 200 yard, downhill par three that most won't reach with a driver if the wind is up to less than a breeze.
The views of the course and the coast line are fabulous. The fairways are pretty generous in the most part and the greens were in excellent condition.
The clubhouse is large and comfortable, and the welcome couldn't be warmer.
They obviously have a different view of what a "light lunch" is in this part of the world because, not only was it very tasty, it was huge!
Definitely one on the play again list.

Brilliant golfing experience!
Stunning cliff-top course with the North Sea to one side and North Norfolk Railway steam trains to the other. Been looking forward to playing it for ages and wasn't disappointed. Nary a flat lie to be found and a wonderful variety of holes. Not a long course, but many holes look further because of the open views. Very much a traditional golf-club, but with a warm welcome to visitors. The fifth tee could be a tourist attraction in its own right!Reviewer Rating

We suspect it’s rated below Hunstanton due to a little golf snobbery – in that it is fairly generous off the tee for the most part, is not true links and is comparatively a tad shorter, but in our view this only adds to its playability. Surely an eminently playable course with stunning scenery is what the average golfer prefers ?! The course has numerous raised tees which always add to the experience and a super mix of holes, notably including 5th, 6th and 10th, all played from raised tees with coastal views-a-plenty. There’s also the local steam train bordering the other side of the course, all adding to the occasion. Similar to our experience at Hunstanton, due to the mini heatwave the course was very firm but the greens again were true and in terrific condition.
We’d highly recommend this course – if you’re thinking of visiting the area then it really should be on your itinerary. If you like your golf challengingly fair with scenery aplenty, then this is a must visit. We paid £60 to pre-book our tee times and were also permitted to play in our preferred 3-ball format, which is sometimes frowned upon at other renowned courses. All-in-all, a terrific venue for a round of golf – and be sure not to forget your camera/phone !

Stunning
I entered the club's annual Seniors Open Competition. Entry fee included coffee, 18 holes, half way house refreshment, a two course meal and coffee. An excellent vfm way to play such a prestigeous course. The afternoon starters experienced a very slow rate of play especially at the start of the round even with 10 minute tee time intervals. This was the only negative aspect of the golfing day. Competition organisers apologies don't mitigate this.

Amazing
Unbelievable golf course.Fairways are fairly wide so you can be temped to open up and players that arent as straight will still enjoy this amazing place.
The bunkers are well placed and if you can avoid them off the tee then you will be in a half decent score.
The greens run and run and not a bobble on them,.
I could quite easily play this course every day for the rest of my life.
