Golfer beware
Golfer beware. Despite being only mid October, this course is in a TERRIBLE condition. Muddy, greens awful, just not worth any money(Round played: Oct 2020 - Score: 83 Handicap: 11)

Declined course
A stunning property and course not being taken care of. Course is not well maintained, and pace of play is shokingly slow. 5+h for 18 holes is just unacceptable.Stay away from most bunkers as these have become all full of wasps that have greated a hive in the bunkers banking. Go elswhere

Overpriced with Rude Staff - Avoid
Don't let the pretentious name fool you. Massively overpriced for an underwhelming course with shocking facilities. The setting of the course itself is really stunning but very undulating but not maintained well. The website states it takes on average 4.5hrs to get around - not something to be shouting about. It took us 5 hours to get around with the usual public course hackers slowing everyone down. To top everything off, we had some angry chubby chap in a golf buggy telling us to speed up, despite there being a group on the green. Don't waste your time or money here.Reviewer Rating

This could be a great course. Lovely setting. Some excellent long undulating par 5s, tough par 3s with raised greens and dog leg par 4s. Accessible for the high handicapper without being too easy. Totally let down by the poor state of the greens, tee boxes and bunkers. Greens were being hollow tined but were also patchy, bare and bumpy. Putting was a total lottery. The tee boxes were not flat and in terrible condition. Shame as could be such a good course. £40 for the round was cheeky for the state of the course.Reviewer Rating

Priorities gone awry
I have played this course regularly over past 8 years and have been terribly disappointed the last 2 weeks. The greens are badly diseased and in the worst condition I have seen them. Cutting of other areas is patchy and (I discovered) machinery out of use because there is a delay in authorising repairs. Yet gree keepers were being diverted to pretty up the hotel grounds, and pointless removal of plants around the first tee and replacing them with strange big pots. Signs all over the hotel grounds are being replaced, but the customer experience is being neglected.Reviewer Rating

Bunkers Need Sand !!
Course in reasonable condition, but poor value for the £35 (£15 pre-pandemic) when the bunkers are in such poor shape with hard compacted sand in many of them.Course consequently half empty on dry summers day, due to the high green fees

Old Stomping Ground
Haven't played this course in over 10 years but it was an old favourite back then it has a nice layout but is in need of investment as well as a bit of tender love and care on the fairways as well as the greens and their surrounds as well as the bunkers especially post pandemic lockdown.Reviewer Rating

Bit like the curates egg...
Good in parts! But too bad in many others. Tees like playing off a mound. Ball either above or below your feet. Many greens like playing on an upturned saucer - shots and even putts just roll off. Fairways, some good lies, others very poor lies. However, the Pro-Shop team were very helpful and courteous at all times. Stayed overnight and the hotel is in dire need of investment. My room had shower-over-bath. But the shower head didn't fit the holder so it was a hold-it-yourself-shower-over-bath! Reception didn't seem concerned when I told them. Hey ho. Dinner starter and main course were just about OK, but the extra charge of £3 for the cheese was not. A small piece of no-flavour goats cheese, a small piece of Stilton that was past its prime, and a piece of mouse-trap. What a joke! Breakfast buffet was a bit hit and miss too. Grapefruit juice was tasteless. Coffee was good, so were the sausages and eggs. But the bacon was under cooked with floppy fat. However, the waitress got the chef to cook some fresh. But that came out hard rather than crispy. At Premier Inn it's cooked fresh! And the bar prices were so over the top. The Wetherspoons down the road is a good bet! So all in all not a great experience. I won't be back. But i enjoyed the golf with good sportsmanship and great humour!(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 108 Handicap: 27.5)

Could be better
This is a course with history. It's a great layout and a fabulous challenge. Unfortunately, and I accept we were playing it in winter, there are serious issues that took much of the enjoyment out of our round.Forward / temp tees- not that much of a problem usually, but there are a mixture of grass, mats and table tops here and most are not in a serviceable state. The mats especially need replacing because they are absolutely unusable and the grass tees need defining better. Just sticking the tee box markers further down the fairway doesn't cut it at what should be a premium course. I usually can't stand the table top type of temp tee but, and it's not saying much, these were actually the best of the lot.
The Greens - are quiet simply a minefield. Worn, bumpy and near impossible to putt properly on.
So the start and end of each hole is a bit of a lottery.
The pace of play was fair at best. We were waiting several minutes on most shots.
The pro shop welcome is warm and the lady in there kept popping out to keep everyone up to date on where they fitted in the tee off times.
As such there isn't a clubhouse. If you want food/drink you have to use the hotel bar. And you have to pay 4 star prices for service that was slower than the pace of play. I would recommend finding a local pub/eatery afterwards, but in it's current condition I wouldn't recommend going there in the first place.
