Golfer beware

Golfer beware. Despite being only mid October, this course is in a TERRIBLE condition. Muddy, greens awful, just not worth any money

Declined course

A stunning property and course not being taken care of. Course is not well maintained, and pace of play is shokingly slow. 5+h for 18 holes is just unacceptable.
Stay away from most bunkers as these have become all full of wasps that have greated a hive in the bunkers banking. Go elswhere

Overpriced with Rude Staff - Avoid

Don't let the pretentious name fool you. Massively overpriced for an underwhelming course with shocking facilities. The setting of the course itself is really stunning but very undulating but not maintained well. The website states it takes on average 4.5hrs to get around - not something to be shouting about. It took us 5 hours to get around with the usual public course hackers slowing everyone down. To top everything off, we had some angry chubby chap in a golf buggy telling us to speed up, despite there being a group on the green. Don't waste your time or money here.

This could be a great course. Lovely setting. Some excellent long undulating par 5s, tough par 3s with raised greens and dog leg par 4s. Accessible for the high handicapper without being too easy. Totally let down by the poor state of the greens, tee boxes and bunkers. Greens were being hollow tined but were also patchy, bare and bumpy. Putting was a total lottery. The tee boxes were not flat and in terrible condition. Shame as could be such a good course. £40 for the round was cheeky for the state of the course.

Priorities gone awry

I have played this course regularly over past 8 years and have been terribly disappointed the last 2 weeks. The greens are badly diseased and in the worst condition I have seen them. Cutting of other areas is patchy and (I discovered) machinery out of use because there is a delay in authorising repairs. Yet gree keepers were being diverted to pretty up the hotel grounds, and pointless removal of plants around the first tee and replacing them with strange big pots. Signs all over the hotel grounds are being replaced, but the customer experience is being neglected.

Played today, unfortunately a very bad experience. First problem, where is the parking for golf users. Badly signalled, almost impossible to find. The course is located in a beautiful location but poorly kept. Nobody told us - although we told the pro-shop assistant that we had never played here - that all greens have been hollow-cored and that there were 5 provisional greens and one hole out of play. Nobody told us that we had to play the 10th two times, firstly to a flag planted in the fairway at par 3 distance (I can't call that "provisional green"), write the score as for the 17th, walk back to the teen and now play the 10 as par 5 that it actually is. Any serious golf course would at least have a sign making users aware of all that before paying green fees. Nobody expect provisional greens at the end of September after an unusual long period of excellent weather. I call them provisional greens but in fact they were just holes on a badly kept fairway. Impossible to use the putter, you had to chip and (no) run from 3 foot!
I don't think I will play here again and certainly cannot recommend this course.
Round playd on 30th September. Score 83 (17 holes), hcp 16.

The golf course at the Sesldon Park Hotel has deteriated due to neglect in maintanance. This is especially noticable by the quailty of the bunkers. Poor quality sand, weeds growing in some areas, bunker edges undefined and rough areas around the bunkers are overgrown. This is a great shame as the course has a good design with some very good holes. In it's current condition it lets the hotel down very badly.

In a quest to find a nice pay and play course for the weekend mornings I have been to the Grove, Stockley Park and here. The Grove is quite expensive and the other alternatives simply aren't worth your time. I suggest staying home and playing in the afternoon or finding a friend that can take to a private club in the morning.
