Very nice course

Actually an 18 hole course, (though only 12 actual holes - but differing tee positions)

Club now has a clubhouse:

Challenging due to wind , narrow fairways and ‘undulations’. Go through the greens = likely ball loss!

Hythe worth a visit

First time we have played here. Not the longest of courses but still a good challenge. We played on a calm day but Im sure when the wind blows in off the Channel it makes it a totally different course. Course was in good condition and the greens were excellent.
Will be going back again for sure.

Course is brilliant and very well maintained. The club members were very helpful. Wind at times can be quite harsh.

This is a fun holidy golf course ... but it has 9 holes and I think 14 tees, with many shared fairways. This means you really have to look where your going ... and the trick is knowing where to look!

Nice holes, strange layout

One of the more baffling layouts I've played, Hythe is a nine-holer, but it has 12 greens and 14 tees. Some of the greens you play once, some twice, sometimes you play to the same green from a different tee (if playing 18), and there is one point where four different tees head into three different greens, using two fairways (which cross over - so really one-and-a-half fairways might be a better description.....) But don't let that put you off, because Hythe is lovely....

A true links, squeezed in between the sea and a canal, on a few holes you're literally teeing it up just a road's width from the English Channel (no word on whether this is a lateral water hazard or not, bringing the worrying prospect of the nearest point of relief after a wayward drive being Dunkirk.....)

It's short but tight, with rolling, well-defended greens and will probably be a significant test when the wind blows.

The course is surrounded, and criss-crossed, by public footpaths, so you often have to wait for walkers to pass before launching a drive. That may sound irritating but I found that the site of everyone, on and off the course, enjoying a crisp early winter's day, quite invigorating. The canal footpath by the course is popular with dog walkers as well, many of whom found the idea of golf balls to chase quite intoxicating. The dogs I mean. The owners, not so much.

The course was in fantastic nick when we played as well - straight after lockdown in early December. The course had had a proper drenching from some horrendous weather but held up well, with the greens in perfect shape (especially pleasing to see this in winter). The members were most welcoming as well - which was handy because without their guidance we would definitely have got lost on the confusing layout.

All told, I'd definitely go back - but maybe on a quiet Monday afternoon. With all the shared greens, tees, etc, the pace on a busy day was quite slow.

Alternatively, maybe someone will have the bright idea of opening a cafe/halfway house at the point of four tees/three greens/two fairways. There's already a boarded up building there - and more or less a permanent queue of thirsty golfers. That would make an enjoyable course even more of a pleasure.
