Not impressed

Course in need of considerable attention, this must have been a lovely course at some time.
Fairways full of cut grass which "hides" golf ball
Greens patchy and full of moss
Lack of direction signs to next hole etc

Course not in good condition at the moment as the crows have dug up a lot of the fairways looking for worms and it is quite bad. The greens are long and slow for putting but hard for chipping or holding.
I am just playing this course at the moment to keep my swing in.

Played on a Groupon so great value. stunning fairways. greens were horrendous, looked like they hadn't seen water for weeks and were cracking in every direction. Course layout was a bit hectic, crossing other fairways to get between greens and tees. I would like to go back if the greens were as nice as the fairways!

Course in need of lots of TLC. Greens either really dry and barren or like putting on shag pile carpet. Some quirky holes and water hazards. Looks like there were bunkers at some time but now no sand in them - just grass. Paid £28 for a 4-ball with bacon butty via internet deal site - just about all it is worth.

Me and a friend played here today on a Groupon offer. The deal was a bacon sandwich, 18 holes and then Pie, chips and peas for £19. The food was decent, the course was not. I accept that this has been a very wet year but parts of the course are very boggy and I mean boggy. In reality I don't think that the course should really have been open there was that much water. Green bunkers had become ponds and there was so water around the 18th green that you would have thought that the front was guarded by a pond. The quality of the greens was reasonable and the same could be said for the fairways. However you need to take plenty of balls to play at the moment as the ground is covered with autumn leaves and even a well struck shot down the fairway can result in a lost ball or ages trying to find the needle in the haystack.

This might be an interesting course to play in a dry summer but it's not fun at the moment. They also need to change the signage because what used to be the club house no longer is despite the signs indicating otherwise.

We would not play there again but I can accept that some people might like it. The fact that it only apparently has a 100 or so members might speak volumes for what the locals think.

Could be a nice course but desparate for a bit of TLC. We like it but

We have been a good few times but is not getting the attention it needs, will be putting people off going in current state!

I can only endorse previous comments, the new owners are working hard to try and turn round years of neglect. The course is improving, and the food, clubhouse, and friendly staff are great.\\\\If the golfing community don\\\\\\\'t support people who are putting in real effort, we can\\\\\\\'t complain if courses continue to disappear in the future.\\\\Ok, it\\\\\\\'s not in the same league as Woodall spa, but neither is the price, come on folks, give these folks a bit of support, give it a go.

Played Horncastle 14th April. I agree with some comments regarding course conditions. This course was only taken over by new owners in February this year having been neglected for some time by the previous owner.( 3 Toro cutting machines rusting by the greenkeepers shed) The new owners have plans to reverse this neglect and deserve support to enable them to improve conditions on what is potentially an interesting layout. All it requires is tlc and time. Help them out and give it a go. If golfers do not support this type of enterprise then it will become just another statistic on the list. The food and clubhouse welcome were both excellent and the clubhouse itself was very good. £10 for a round midweek won't break the bank .

Not a bad golf course but could do with spending a little time and care on the greens as they are a little scabby, Also a few direction signs guiding you to the next tee would be hand but all in all not too bad. Friendly staff and a nice drink afterwards.

First time I've played the course and I must say I was a little apprehensive after reading a fair few negative reviews, however, within the first couple of holes I knew I was in for a pleasant round. Not a long course by any standards but a couple of the holes are tricky due to some well placed hazards meaning driver off the tee is a no-no. Plenty to keep you thinking on your way round anyway. Only a couple of negatives really which was the lack of signage on the way round the course and lack of map on the scorecard, as a first time player there were a few times I had no idea where I was hitting to and made selecting a shot impossible. Greens could do with a bit of work and although firm they're not the smoothest nor the fastest around. For £12.50 for a mid-week round you really can't complain. Very nice surroundings and a few picture perfect holes. Will be playing again.

It is a good test of golf.from tee to green not bad but the greens need looking at they just will not hold a ball and it is tough to chip and run because 14 holes have water..... and aprons need to be intrerduced on most holes.....fair ways look like they have not been cut for a few days and mole hill need knocking down.sort this out and it would be a top course...and we would come back.

A short but fun course where straight driving is imperative. There are no sand bunkers on the course but 14 of the 18 greens are protected by water. Played on a Thursday morning and only cost £10 hence the excellent value for money. Only saw two other people on the course which probably reflects the poor clubhouse/facilities (there wasn't one) and the shortness of the course.
