Excellent course. With a bit of a links feel. The 17th hole is something to behold. It takes an age for the ball to land ,waiting to see if you chose the right club. Awesome.

Played this course with our golf society on 08/06/14. It is a little hidden gem of a course. We were lucky with the weather on the day, sunshine but a little windy although I doubt they get many calm days up on the moors. The course has a great layout and the greens and fairways were in excellent condition. Several of the holes require a lay up off the tee although we took drivers and were punished accordingly. The views from the top of the course were fantastic and it is walkable although it is hilly in parts and if you have any doubts you may want to consider a buggy. Bacon butties and 2 course meal after the round were very good and every one of our society said they would like to go back and play there again.

Always a challenge.

Played Halifax several times, usually some wind and the severity determines your score! Even when bad weather hits the course is playable and the greens are good.

Good test in good weather, little shabby round edges

Halifax Golf Club is tucked away in a quiet corner of the moors and you really get that quiet impression when you turn up there. The pro shop is freshly stocked with new apparel and gear but a little old fashioned in lay out, same goes for the clubhouse.

Out on the course you are given an opening par 5 dogleg right to behind which is a nice steady opening hole and then a good par 3 on the second.

After the second the course goes downhill considerably for the next couple of holes with an odd design, shared fairways and almost impossible approaches to the fourth green. After those two shambles of holes however the course does then begin to open out into a true moorland test. A couple of the holes in the back 9 require a long accurate drive if you want to make birdie.

Overall, I enjoyed my 82 round HGC, I was impressed by the difference in hole style and layout but disappointed with a lack of green keeping on teeboxes and greens. To mention, the greens were rock solid and fast but not in very good condition.

If this course was tidied up around the tees and greens and fairways given a more dramatic cut to juxtapose against the Heather in the rough it could Be one of Yorkshire’s finest.
