What the club says: West End Golf Club is situated high - 1000 feet above sea level at the top of the course - to the north of Halifax The altitude ensures magnificent, long distance views and yet there are no really steep gradients and the layout offers easy walking.

The course measures 5,971 yards, par 69 for men and 5,302 yards, par 71 for ladies and is a fair and enjoyable test for any level of golfer. The superb drainage makes play possible for 52 weeks of the year.

Winter Play....

15 of us played on the 8th January, cold but sunny. The course was set up very well with all greens in play.
Slight variation on one or two greens but hey ho it is January.
Made to feel very welcome by Darren and James and agreed a very competitive price. Great course in a tight area but superb views throughout.
Well worth a visit....

A well kept course

West End is a well kept challenging course that could in my opinion, include holes with more variety. There are parts of the course where it just feels as if you are playing one way, only to turn 180 degrees and hit back just to where you have come from. The holes that offer variety are well crafted and offer a welcome variation.

1st Round great course

1st round at West End Golf Club played all 18 holes some par 3s you tee of mats course in good condition to say all the rain we have over the winter Halifax's little gem- recommend

For the time of year, the course was in reasonable condition. Most of the greens were very good. However there was a least 4 temp greens, which were very poor.
Overall a decent course.

Fantastic even in the rain

A courses true pedigree can be seen in the most testing conditions, and this was shown when we played here on a Wednesday in the pouring rain and a howling wind. The course still played well and fair. It is a really fair test of golf, go in the the trees lining the fairway and you have to chip out, but unlike some other courses, you will find your ball. The evergreen trees minimise leaf litter and there isn't the heavy rough you find at most other courses.
The greens were excellent even though some had standing water on them.
I was surprised at how easy it was to walk, given the topography of the Halifax area, but the steepest slopes were easily manged by all 4 of us aged 45-65.

The professional was just that, professional. Courteous, friendly and very welcoming if somewhat bemused we managed to complete the full 18 in such poor conditions. He complimented us on our fortitude and even offered us a free fourball as a reward which we intend to take shortly.
The clubhouse offers great value for money food. £5 for 2 coffees and 2 bacon sandwiches, and the homemade sausage rolls are delicious. Thank you Dave and Dee.

I enjoyed it so much I will be joining ASAP and look forward to meeting members and joining in the Rabbit events and club comps.
