Nice venue, great value for money

A nice venue and great value for money location. The hotel, shop, clubhouse, welcome and food were all excellent with no issues. What spoilt the visit was the over subscribed use of the course, the very slow play because of that and the poor to average condition of the playing surface. The whole course badly needs a trim and the greens need a roll. A nice layout with some challenging holes but the use of watering the greens on an already wet day was quite baffling and annoying, which resulted in the already slow greens being made even slower and water logged. A shame and disapppointing.

Lovely course but some dangerous holes with crossing between holes and lots of blind shots, bells which visitors are not aware of etc
Few times very nearly hit by flying balls
Nevertheless, scenic and enjoyable course

This is a course that provides challenges for all women and men with well place bunkers and many other hazards with some very tight driving holes though tree line on both side, well worth playing and will be returning again we had a 2 night stay and the meals was excellent

Annual visit for our group ranging from 8-12 players for a number of years. 3 night stay and able to play 4-6 rounds with Breakfast and Evening Meal. Staff are very friendly and attentive both in the hotel, bar and restaurant area and the golf shop.

Breakfast is buffet with usual choices while the evening meal is 3 course pre chosen from a menu options and served at the table. Wine is very expensive and the lunch time options are as well where only a simple sandwich is required and used to be served this is now not the case. We used an onsite van which operates 2 days a week and Lidl just down the hill for a much cheaper option.

The buggy prices are higher than average but the course although hilly is walkable. They have over the last 3 years put in some ditches and ponds which seem to affect the average golfer. In particular hole 12 already difficult has in some people's opinion been spoilt by the unnecessary hazard additions. The course overall is in good condition.

The rooms are adequate but a little tired, but if golfing you are not in them long.

Cost

I was charged £40 for a buggy for 18 holes on a Weds.
I live locally and cannot play without using one... I find this cost extortionate and discriminate against people who cannot play without using one.

Fine...it's fine

The facilities are excellent, but the course for me was a bit meh, too many holes where you can't see the green from the tee box. My game is not good enough for these types of holes yet.
We had to tee off from winter mats which is fine but about 4 or 5 were some weird rock-hard mats you couldn't get your tee into apart from 1 section that was like a mini canyon making it hard to tee your ball to your preferred height.
Some of my puts just missed as my ball got to the hole, it looked like on some of the green when they took the device that makes to the hole out they didn't flatten the ground back down afterwards, this happened 2-3 times, the rest was my s****y putting.
Don't mean to be too harsh it was nice to play, I was rubbish but the course didn't suit my game as it is at the moment. The only reason I wouldn't play there again is, for me, it is a bit of a journey to get there, if I lived closer then I would give it another go.

Lovely course spoilt by dangerous tiny wooded tee mats

Lovely course spoilt by dangerous tiny wooded tee mats is the only description I can afford. The course is a good test in lovely surroundings, the hotel is excellent, the staff really friendly and the catering is top notch. The price is ridiculously low, worth returning but those tee mats are simply not playable. Unlike you the player I would tell the greens staff to get a grip and change them quickly. Because of that fact alone I will make the visit down more than I should have.

The course itself was an excellent parkland course and the grass was well cut and wide fairways. There was always a challnge at some point e.g. the pin was behind a bunker. However what let our round down was the condition of all of the greens. They were being repaired so that there was grass seed, sand and fine earth on all greens which made putting a lottery. Having said that, I totally understand that the work needs to be done for the long term good and we were just unlucky in terms of timing our round.

Having been to this venue a number of times in the past, the package offered including accommodation is very good. However over the last 2 or 3 years holes 11 12 in particular have been spoilt. A ditch on 11 is a problem for short hitters, while stroke index 3 hole 12 is now number 1 and has had a number of additions a continuation of the ditch from 11, another ditch and the filling in of the narrow entrance to the green. This has made an already difficult hole extremely difficult except for long hitters and low handicap golfers and were unnecessary additions. The cost of the buggies for a round is extortionate at ?35, a little better for the day at ?50 but that is for those staying in the hotel, those turning up as a day guest pay more while members pay less.

The accommodation is tired and needs a facelift.

Food is good with a choice although lunches could include just a sandwich rather than including chips.

Drink is not a bad privce but the wines are very expensive.

Overall the course in good condition taking around 4 hours for a 4 ball to go round.

Lovely course spoilt by condition of greens

A lovely course spoilt by the unkept condition of the greens. Great value for money venue, nice challenging short course with plenty of hazards. The fairways and tees were ok but the greens were pretty poor and not cared for. Staff blamed the recent weather but looked like more. Wouldn't stop a return visit but you need to understand your putts don't run true. The accommodation was adequate, the bar prices a little steep but the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the catering were excellent.

Fantastic venue

A fantastic venue for a visit. We had an overnighter with 2 rounds. The course is short but never the less challenging. In great condition and very enjoyable to play. The hotel, dining area, staff, food, shop and hospitality were all excellent and very good value for money paid. All of my 12 person party loved it and would wish to return anytime. A great find and a better deal.

Course is in great condition and looks good too, greens immaculate. Bunkers could do with some more sand though. Every hole is different, with a number of ponds in play if you are not careful, each hole provides a different challenge. Pro shop very friendly and clubhouse provides plenty of options. Pace of play was a little slow as we were following the Seniors. Value for money and will always play here.
