Nice venue, great value for money

A nice venue and great value for money location. The hotel, shop, clubhouse, welcome and food were all excellent with no issues. What spoilt the visit was the over subscribed use of the course, the very slow play because of that and the poor to average condition of the playing surface. The whole course badly needs a trim and the greens need a roll. A nice layout with some challenging holes but the use of watering the greens on an already wet day was quite baffling and annoying, which resulted in the already slow greens being made even slower and water logged. A shame and disapppointing.

Lovely course but some dangerous holes with crossing between holes and lots of blind shots, bells which visitors are not aware of etc
Few times very nearly hit by flying balls
Nevertheless, scenic and enjoyable course

Forest of dean

This is a course that provides challenges for all women and men with well place bunkers and many other hazards with some very tight driving holes though tree line on both side, well worth playing and will be returning again we had a 2 night stay and the meals was excellent

Annual visit for our group ranging from 8-12 players for a number of years. 3 night stay and able to play 4-6 rounds with Breakfast and Evening Meal. Staff are very friendly and attentive both in the hotel, bar and restaurant area and the golf shop.

Breakfast is buffet with usual choices while the evening meal is 3 course pre chosen from a menu options and served at the table. Wine is very expensive and the lunch time options are as well where only a simple sandwich is required and used to be served this is now not the case. We used an onsite van which operates 2 days a week and Lidl just down the hill for a much cheaper option.

The buggy prices are higher than average but the course although hilly is walkable. They have over the last 3 years put in some ditches and ponds which seem to affect the average golfer. In particular hole 12 already difficult has in some people's opinion been spoilt by the unnecessary hazard additions. The course overall is in good condition.

The rooms are adequate but a little tired, but if golfing you are not in them long.

Another really good day. Course was in good condition and the weather was great. Staff friendly and so were the members we spoke to on the 1st tee. Will definitely play again.

Cost

I was charged £40 for a buggy for 18 holes on a Weds.
I live locally and cannot play without using one... I find this cost extortionate and discriminate against people who cannot play without using one.

Fine...it's fine

The facilities are excellent, but the course for me was a bit meh, too many holes where you can't see the green from the tee box. My game is not good enough for these types of holes yet.
We had to tee off from winter mats which is fine but about 4 or 5 were some weird rock-hard mats you couldn't get your tee into apart from 1 section that was like a mini canyon making it hard to tee your ball to your preferred height.
Some of my puts just missed as my ball got to the hole, it looked like on some of the green when they took the device that makes to the hole out they didn't flatten the ground back down afterwards, this happened 2-3 times, the rest was my s****y putting.
Don't mean to be too harsh it was nice to play, I was rubbish but the course didn't suit my game as it is at the moment. The only reason I wouldn't play there again is, for me, it is a bit of a journey to get there, if I lived closer then I would give it another go.
