What the club says: Hunting (De Vere Slaley Hall)
The Hunting is a truly great course and it's no surprise that it holds European Tour events on an annual basis - it was also England's entry to stage the 2010 Ryder Cup. The challenging par 4, 9th is an awesome hole, with a carry over water through a narrow avenue of towering trees and dense rhododendrons. With the abundant foliage along the fairways, you'll see why this course is one of the most colourful in the British Isles.
Priestman (De Vere Slaley Hall)
The Priestman is a slightly newer course and is generally thought to be of equal standard. It was superbly designed by PGA Chairman Neil Coles and weaves its way across 280 acres of the Western side of this

Played at Slaley Hall this weekend on the Sunday driver package - Sunday / Monday 2nd & 3rd September. Bed, breakfast and evening meal + 2 rounds on the better Hunting Course - £109 per person. We have previously played the Hunting one day and the Priestman the other, but we felt in previous years that the Hunting course is both a better layout and looked after better by the green staff. It cost us an extra £10 to play the Hunting twice over the normal £99 cost.
Considering how much rain we have had, the course was in good condition although the greens were a bit bobbly compared to previous years and some of them had been microtined. Bunkers were a bit poor - several days of rain had probably hardened them, but it would have only have taken a good raking by the greenkeepers to sort them out. The Hunting course is fairly long and well tree lined in places and there are many holes that require a well placed tee shot rather than just long distance.
The inclusive three course meal was excellent and there was enough choice for everyone. The service was excellent - endless supply of bread and table water - little things that make a difference. Breakfast was fantastic - all the usual cold foods and english breakfast choices + cooked to order specials such as Eggs Benedict, Kippers, Boiled Eggs, Smoked Haddock all included in the price.
I have read of people complaining about bar prices at Slaley, but normal Stella was £4 a pint, which I don't think is too bad for a hotel of Slaley's standard.
Overall, a great value weekend of golf and no complaints from any of our party of 10. Will return again. - Sep 6 2012

Golf Course Reviews for De Vere Slaley Hall Golf Club
(Round played: Aug 2017 - Score: 97 Handicap: 20)
Slaley Hall is a tough tough course, Huge challenge, frustrating for high handicappers but great challenge all the same
(Round played: Jun 2017 - Score: 103 Handicap: 18.7)
What a great venue. Tough but fair. Fantastic greens, layout on both courses is great. The hotel is lovely and clean with modern rooms and bars. The staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for you, nothing was too much trouble. Only negative was the price for buggies at ?35 each and we played 4 rounds and the bunkers were very poor on the Priestman and average on the Hunting, due to heavy rain for a couple of weeks before we arrived.
