Could be so good

Played Slaley over the past 20 years and in my opinion it has gone down hill, hotel is still great but the courses haven't really matured in the way they should have greens and fairways have got wetter and on my last visit the fairways were almost unplayable.

Played the Hunting Course, a really nice course in a lovely setting.
The lay out is good with some challenging water hazards, bunkers & trees. The greens were superb
The front 9 is OK, a little repetitive in places, 6 & 7 are the highlights. However I really enjoyed the back 9. The 10th is nice, but then from the superb dog leg 11th over water I don't think there's a bad hole after that.
A really enjoyable round on a cracking course

Played at Slaley Hall this weekend on the Sunday driver package - Sunday / Monday 2nd & 3rd September. Bed, breakfast and evening meal + 2 rounds on the better Hunting Course - £109 per person. We have previously played the Hunting one day and the Priestman the other, but we felt in previous years that the Hunting course is both a better layout and looked after better by the green staff. It cost us an extra £10 to play the Hunting twice over the normal £99 cost.

Considering how much rain we have had, the course was in good condition although the greens were a bit bobbly compared to previous years and some of them had been microtined. Bunkers were a bit poor - several days of rain had probably hardened them, but it would have only have taken a good raking by the greenkeepers to sort them out. The Hunting course is fairly long and well tree lined in places and there are many holes that require a well placed tee shot rather than just long distance.

The inclusive three course meal was excellent and there was enough choice for everyone. The service was excellent - endless supply of bread and table water - little things that make a difference. Breakfast was fantastic - all the usual cold foods and english breakfast choices + cooked to order specials such as Eggs Benedict, Kippers, Boiled Eggs, Smoked Haddock all included in the price.

I have read of people complaining about bar prices at Slaley, but normal Stella was £4 a pint, which I don't think is too bad for a hotel of Slaley's standard.

Overall, a great value weekend of golf and no complaints from any of our party of 10. Will return again.

Nice Countryside Peaceful setting

Course in good condition, not loo wet, greens were a little bumpy and slow, I am sure they will be perfect in a few weeks. Great afternoon out, great setting.

'Augusta of the North'

Its a bold statement - but I can see how this venue gets that tag.

I played the Hunting course - which is a tough test. The terrain means lots of ups and down from both tees and to greens. But this does make for some spectacular holes.

Dont try and be a hero and play off the backs if your ability doesnt suggest you should - its equally as challenging from all tees and will provide some tough tee shots and some demanding approaches. You'll enjoy it more by not making it any harder than it already is.

The greens were superb and tricky to read in places too.

All round a great experience.

September golf break

What a wonderful venue to stay and play at the accommodation was excellent. The golf courses were in excellent condition although the rough was absolutely brutal ,even a foot off the fairway. More due me being a novice golfer and the course above my standard .Even though the courses had me struggling I would recommend this venue for a good golf break.

Brilliant, must visit

Both courses at Slaley are well prepared and a challenge for all standards of golfer. You have to plot your way around the Hunting course, Priestman is long, but again you have many challenges. You have got to try both.

Punishing Rough.

Played Both Courses at Slaley Hall. I have to say the Hunting course is stunning and a good challenge. The other course. Priestman I think it is called, whilst a good layout , the rough on that course is in my opinion far too brutal for a resort type golf destination. Almost always led to a lost ball or almost impossible shot out. That spoils a round of golf and as I say, in my opinion unnecessary.

beautiful course far away from any noise pollution whatsoever. the fairways are in such good condition as were the greens .both courses Priestman and Hunting were is as good a condition I have ever seen .our only problem was the length of the round having a 2.12 Tee off time we though it would be easy to make our dinner time at 8.00 in the evening we actually walked off the 18th green at 7.35 mainly due to societies taking to long to look for golf balls in front .

Played here yesterday (Priestman). Challenging but very enjoyable for high handicappers like my playing partner and myself (37 under new rules). Greens were in great condition and pretty fast but some of the fairways were a bit boggy.
We both liked the challenge and will be back again soon.
Watch out for the drink prices in the bar. Over £5 for a pint!!

Lovely Course

Brilliant course, a very enjoyable round. Greens in excellent condition but stay on the fairway - the rough swallows balls without a trace!
