What The Club Says

The course at Cowdray Park is set amongst the beautiful South Downs and forms part of The Viscount Cowdray's 16,000 acres estate. Overlooking the ruins of the old Cowdray House, golf was first played here in 1904 and the course has now matured into what is without doubt one of the most beautiful tracks in the south east. Measuring 6,212 yards, the par 70 layout boasts the very latest in fairway irrigation and sprinkler systems and together with its sandy soil, is able to maintain its superb condition throughout the whole year.

Cowdray park

Good dry course with very good conditions. Plenty of parking and an excellent club house. A little bit hilly in places so might need a buggy or electric cart.

Cowdray GC is a wonderful layout. The fairways and tees are superb, the bunkers are well designed and filled with proper sand and the greens are flawless. The clubhouse is warm and inviting, the food is of the highest standard and the staff are friendly. There is no shortage of things to do on site - and there is plenty to do within striking distance.

The bunkers have all been revamped and look a picture along with the rest of the course. They are well positioned and with the rough brow to cope with too they really do the job of presenting a hazard worth avoiding. Greens are in great condition too. And don't forget to take in the views. This place to me has it all. Friendly staff and members, a great setting, excellent course and gorgeous views.

What you want a golf club to be.

I love this course it's in a great setting and has some fantastic holes. Always welcoming and has always been in good condition when I've played it. Currently undergoing new bunkers to the whole course but what a place it will be when complete this summer. Try it.

Good but could be so much better

Beautiful golf course in some of the finest scenery and countryside in West Sussex. Very pleasant club house and changing facilities, golf shop more of a kiosk than a shop and dreary staff in there, who looked like they'd rather be anywhere else, than serving punters. Some fine holes, especially on the front 9, but very disappointed to find so many unrepaired divots on the fairways and some of the greens. A decent half way house, but closed on the day and some members I met, moaned about the fact it is closed more than it's open. No sign of any marshals and no sign of anyone in the starter hut, disappointing given the stature of the club and it's reputation. Slow play an issue in places, no doubt some of the octogenarian members shuffling their way round with the usual 'thou shalt not pass' attitude. Liberal attitude to dress code, some very casual attire worn by some players I saw, again disappointing.

Come on Cowdray. Let's have everyone properly dressed, let's have a couple of marshals out in buggies on the course and let's sharpen up a bit. The club feels like it needs a breath of fresh air, feels a bit stuck in a rut, feels like it's living on reputation. You have a very good course, yet the golfing experience felt me wanting more.

Beautiful views

Two different days of golf- one that was wet and the other that was dry and sunny. Course coped well with the rain which was a deluge and dried quickly for the following day where the greens were fast and tricky- many undulations. Course offers all golfers a challenge so well worth a visit.
