Better courses nearby!
Played at this parkland course expecting great things after reading the reviews on this site. Left Completely disappointed and very wet. Being a clay golf course I’m sure I should have expected the conditions after rain but nowhere near worth £60.00. There’s a course just south that offers much better value and customer service for half the price.Reviewer Rating

Very strange. Played here numerous times in the past and loved it. What’s happened. They still have the winter markers out around the greens and looks like a mud bath, the greens really poor and bobbling around all over the place. I’m sure it will recover to it’s normal amazing condition but some way away yet.Reviewer Rating

Good dry course with very good conditions. Plenty of parking and an excellent club house. A little bit hilly in places so might need a buggy or electric cart.Reviewer Rating

Good but could be so much better
Beautiful golf course in some of the finest scenery and countryside in West Sussex. Very pleasant club house and changing facilities, golf shop more of a kiosk than a shop and dreary staff in there, who looked like they'd rather be anywhere else, than serving punters. Some fine holes, especially on the front 9, but very disappointed to find so many unrepaired divots on the fairways and some of the greens. A decent half way house, but closed on the day and some members I met, moaned about the fact it is closed more than it's open. No sign of any marshals and no sign of anyone in the starter hut, disappointing given the stature of the club and it's reputation. Slow play an issue in places, no doubt some of the octogenarian members shuffling their way round with the usual 'thou shalt not pass' attitude. Liberal attitude to dress code, some very casual attire worn by some players I saw, again disappointing.Come on Cowdray. Let's have everyone properly dressed, let's have a couple of marshals out in buggies on the course and let's sharpen up a bit. The club feels like it needs a breath of fresh air, feels a bit stuck in a rut, feels like it's living on reputation. You have a very good course, yet the golfing experience felt me wanting more.

Quality course
Played Cowdray twice (in very different conditions) over a two day golf break. Stayed in The Lodge on-site which was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was excellent! Golf challenging for all grades of handicap - greens are the course defence with splendid undulations, ridges and subtle pin placements. Overall a course we?ll worth playing in a great part of Sussex.Reviewer Rating

Challenging course with beautiful views
A beautiful place to spend a few hours. We found it fairly challenging with length, undulations and well placed bunkers being it's main defense. The clubhouse is also a great place to spend time. Decent practice facilities as well.Reviewer Rating

Played on 1st October in a group of 9 so three x 3 balls. The course was in excellent condition despite a huge rainstorm before we teed off - so the course definitely drains well. The tees, fairways and greens were generally in first class order and are clearly well maintained. In some respects the course is challenging but it is also forgiving. There are well planned hazards and many of the holes offer angled fairways so you need to drive off with care! We were lucky to have clear weather following the storm and were blessed with some wonderful views across the downs and surrounding countryside. Regarding the off-course facilities, the club is well appointed and we were welcomed with enthusiasm by the pro-shop staff - we rented two buggies and they were good quality. Our one criticism would be that the speed of service in the upstairs bar/restaurant was poor and if felt as if the kitchen/bar was understaffed even though there were not many customers in the club-house at that time - to be fair, we were told that there was some sort of an official inspection going on so the slow service may have been a temporary blip. To summarise, all of our group were impressed and had an enjoyable day - we will definitely return.Reviewer Rating

South Downs wonder views
3 hour drive from the midlands. Wasn’t disappointed when I finally got off the tiny single track roads from the A3. Wonderful club house and made to feel very welcome by the staff! Golf was good, views were amazing and a hilly course! So hard going at times! Some nice elevated tees like on 4 and 5 were standouts! Only negative was the course layout at times meant waiting for a double green to clear which caused a delay for 2 matches. Overall very pleasant but nothing amazing If I lived in the area I’d probably play by golf elsewhere but enjoy an occasional round here!If I lived in the area
