Front 9 is very open and wide whilst the back 9 is very tight and woodland with wayward shots invariably being lost causes.

Loved the front 9, not a massive fan of the back 9. All in all, its a really well maintained course with tons of variation. Front 9 is a lot more open and you really need to take advantage of this if you are going to post a decent score. Back 9 is a lot tighter and requires pin point accuracy on many of the tee shots.
The course is very hilly with some superb views so I would recommend to anyone, however if you are a little erratic like myself you could get very frustrated and need plenty of balls in the bag.

First time on this course, teed off at just gone 5pm on a beautiful Sunday evening in May.
I will write about the boring stuff first what I look for on a course which is easily changeable. It has many ball cleaners on many of the tees. It has 150 yardage markers which are big chunky stakes at the edge of the fairway on every hole which are easily seen which is fab and the course also has ample bins. The greens and fairways are also in fabulous condition.
This is the most schizophrenic course I have ever played (it's my 11th in the area). The opening 9 is pretty much about smashing a driver as close to the green as possible with wide open space for a margin for error. There are a couple of holes which run alongside of the road on the right but there is space if you over fade the ball. This part of the course is ontop of the hill with lovely views similar to that which you would see from Stinchcombe Hill GC. But it has lovely Cotswold stone walls and some tall mature trees.
Then in the returning 9 holes you (where some of the nicest holes I have every played happen to be) sends you down the hill where you can imagine used to be small cattle fields. Here the course gets very tight and if you are slightly way wards you are O.O.B which always seemed to be on the right. You need a club in your armory which is straighter rather than longer.
This is a truly lovely course which has a nice mix of golf holes, I it did feel like I was playing two different courses at times. The second half isn't particularly forgiving which I could see annoying some players and the lay of the land makes it unsuitable for people who don't enjoy walking. But for the courses within a 30 minute drive of Thornbury this is the nicest I have played.
