Very very poor

No signage, very poor greens. Green keepers cut the fairways but left all the grass cuttings all over the fairways leaving impossible lies.

Below average municipal course

I played this course with a couple of friends and it is by far the worst kept course I have played this year. The tee boxes are extremely uneven and very dry, there are some awful fairways, and the greens were very inconsistent. We were also held up on the front 9 frequently. The only plus side was we managed to secure the round for ?6 rather than the ?18 you would pay on the day. I would not recommend this course.

Played here yesterday. Held up all the way round by a 4 ball in buggies! The greens were possibly the worst I’ve ever seen, they defied physics and half the grass was missing! How they can justify charging £22 a round is madness and we will not be returning. Wouldn’t pay £10 to play here. Shocking

Worsed course I have played ever

A shame but true I don't like to leave negative comments/reviews but I feel I must to stop other poor golfers falking out hard earned cash to play a terrible course.
Layout not that bad but the fairways weren't cut so it was all one length a but like a baddly cut football pitch.
Greens just been spiked.
Can honestly say the worsed course I've ever played very bad

Disappointed they have put there prices up.so you think the course would be in good condition. Nearly all the fairways were covered in grass cutting. Expected better from the council keep the prices reasonable & you will get more playing remember this is not a private club. We are council tax payers

This used to be a lovely course to play, but now is in a sorry state, fairways full of cut grass ( losing balls that you know have gone down the middle of the fairway). grass/weeds in bunkers, greens poorly cut and treated. Overall it is poorly maintained/looked after course, needs a good overall, which is a shame as it has a lot of potential in the right hands. Paid £11,but to be honest only worth half that in its current condition. Only plus side is the new clubhouse..., and yet another shame that the old one is going to ruin..... very disappointed

Enough is enough!....i have been coming here as a social pay and play member for a number of years. I won't be returning. The greens are some of the worst i have ever played on. They are bare, burnt, not cut properly and have bobbles everywhere...its an absolute joke. Complained to the pro in the shop. Like talking to the wall. Its nearly £19.00 on a weekend and i just refuse to pay that...its not worth it. The condition of the course should mean a 50% discount at least until it is returned to the correct standard..honestly..the council should hang their heads in shame.

Its quite difficult not to be offensive, because the course has declined to an unacceptable standard over the past few years. I have been a member for the last four years hoping things cannot possibly get worse but , unfortunately they do.
The course and greens are in dreadful condition, largely to do with only one greenkeeper who has no transport due breakdown and have not been repaired, its wakefield council are they really that skint. None of the greens have been roped off or marked to keep trolleys and buggies away from the approches which are very muddy and have very inconsistent bounce, therefore punish good shots. The greens have lacked irrigation for past two summers and so impossible to play come dry conditions.
The worst offence is the use of buggies during poor wet conditions which have trashed much of the course and are allowed on even when all normal greens are shut, apparantely the club pro receives the buggy money and therefore his pocket is far more important than the course.
Very few people pay to play more than once due to the state of the course generally.
The course was and could be very good with the right management but nobody seems to have any influence over anything and the council have refused to invest in it apart from build a new clubhouse which most members would rather see burned down so they could repair the old one which is perfect.

I could go on but I think you get the message. The council needs to see this as well as the pro and any commitee members because it is how most members under the age of 65 feel. I will be joining a different club in future this club does not deserve my membership, only OAPs who pay peanuts for it will carry being members, although their fourballs dominate the course and make for unbelievably slow play upto about 3pm

The greens are abysmal. Etiquette is not adhered to on the course, I play by myself and I frequently follow four balls who don't have the decency to let me through.

Priced at approx £15 per round it is overpriced considering I can play private courses for much the same money!

On the plus side I can ring and book a round within the hour.

Nice enough course through parkland. Sadly in need of some TLC around the tee boxes, and especially the greens. Several greens had bare patches and they were painfully slow on the whole. Plenty of sand in the bunkers but some lack definition (edges seem to just blend with the grass on some), again probably down to a slight lack of maintenance. Only paid £10 to play so all in all OK, but with some care it could be far better.

Course improving

Played the course today. A lot better condition than when we played it a few years ago. Greens and fairways in good condition. Bunkers still in a poor state but have been told they are next on the list. Tee boxes could do with some attention. Otherwise well worth a visit. Pretty long course but not hilly. Friendly staff and nice clubhouse where we were made very welcome. Had a nice chat to steward and member of the golf club. Will be going again (hopefully when bunkers are sorted). Nice price for a round of golf (4 ball special)
