What the club says: The parkland course is sited on the world's first nature reserve. Charles Waterton a pioneering Victorian naturalist created the nature reserve in 1820 and he dedicated his life to preserving the local wildlife in this area, and today we still share the park with all manner of wildlife. The golf course was designed by Simon Gidman and opened in 1995.
The design cleverly exploits the 200 acres available, creating a spaciousness not found in many courses set in smaller areas. The par 72 course has been built to extremely high standards with USGA specification greens and tree-lined fairways. The club prides itself on the condition of the course especially its fairways and greens, the greens are in play all year round.
Iv'e just joined golfshake and saw this golf course on golfshake web site with good reviews, i booked me and my mate for on friday 9th cost £20 each.

Came across this place by accident when searching google for 'best value' courses in the UK. Waterton park subsequently popped up on a Golfshake list of the best UK courses with green fees under ?50... and it's only 30 minutes from where I live, so thought I'd give it a try.
I should point out at this stage that UK green fees are a major source of frustration for me as I think they're a huge barrier to people getting into golf and don't always reflect the quality of a course, but rather the clientele that course is aiming to attract.
Paid ?67 in total for 2 green fees plus buggy hire after an exceptionally warm welcome from Scott in the pro shop. He looked like a man under pressure with 12 jobs on the go at once and a phone ringing off the wall but couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming.
Having played the first few holes we were exceptionally glad to have chosen the buggy as it's undulating to say the least... this is not an easy walking course so I recommend hiking boots if on foot. That said, the layout is great, the course is in amazing condition and the views across and alongside the wonderful lake are spectacular. Indeed, the first par 3 we came across was a stunning hole with a shot across a ravine... it looked like the tee box and green had been cut out of the hillside. I had to keep reminding myself that the green fee is only ?22.50 each (I believe there's also a Thursday afternoon special offer for ?19). That's staggering value for money.
Playing off the blue or white tees you need to be striking it well to make a good score as a lot of the par 4s are 400+ yards and play uphill into the wind. That's not a criticism by any stretch, just an observation... there were a couple of periods where I don't think I used an iron for around 6 holes with driver and fairway wood or rescue being required to get anywhere near the green!
All in all it's outstanding value for money and I rate this place higher than many courses I've played with green fees in excess of ?75. Will definitely be back as it's so refreshing to come across a course of this quality with a green fee around the ?20 mark.
