May be a short course but certainly isn't easy. Lovely greens and fairways. Very challenging. Need to play with a member really or it is expensive but worth the money.

Quite Good

Turned up the day before lockdown and they tell you when you arrive no trolleys aloud which if you have an electric trolley bag is not great. Also temporary tees is use when the tee boxes looked great and the course is not being used for a month. This sort of thing is not unusual as it's not very well organised. The course layout also means the tee boxes are very close to the previous greens which makes stray shots interesting.

One of Essex best

Chelmsford has recently invested heavily in golf course and clubhouse improvements and the results really show. The course is in superb condition, the fairways in particular being quite outstanding compared to many course in the County that suffered badly in the drought. The greens too are in beautiful condition after much work on them over the last two years. Though relatively short the course is tight with many tree-lined fairways demanding accuracy off the tee at all times. This coupled with small highly contoured greens that, when dry, can be fiendish to stay on makes it a real challenge to score well. Recent bunker improvements and additions have produced some very attractive looking holes. There is a congenial half way hut serving food and drink. The extensive clubhouse refurbishment may not be to everyone's taste but is comfortable and welcoming despite COVID restrictions. The Pro's shop is very friendly and helpful in keeping with the overall welcoming atmosphere at the club. Practice facilities, limited to a practice net, a small putting green, and a pitching green, do not match the quality of the course, and uncollected practice balls scattered around parts of the course near the clubhouse detract from the overall impression.
Though it cannot quite match the layouts of one or two local rivals it is a real pleasure to play here and very highly recommended.

Lovely course.

Lovely course which needs you to work out where to go very carefully. There are plenty of dangers if you get it wrong. Tough start with SI 3 and 1 in the first three holes. Greens are slick at the moment, go passed the hole on a down slope and expect a difficult putt coming back.
Service and food were excellent.

Charming Chelmsford

Tough course, maybe more so today as very windy, but plenty of long par 4's, uphill and multiple dog legs. Helps to play course with someone that knows it. Great greens but multiple levels and nuances.

Short but tricky course with only 1 par 5. Makes up for it with some long par 4s

Great quality greens although I remember them being even faster a few years back

Lovely parkland course. An Essex gem with good greens and lots of elevation within a generally flat county

Superb day at Chelmsford playing in the Lesley Wood Plate match with a really good competitor, playing the game in the right spirit. Would love to go back and play again.
