Fairways damaged by recent hot weather- should be preferred lies generally at the moment. Weather was poor on my recent visit and the dye in the greens covering hands etc.. I have palyed it before and it is usually a good test.(Round played: Aug 2018 - Score: 86 Handicap: 17.9)

Challenging but fair
Lovely course, not overly long but short game in good shape required. As with most golf good driving needed but you will probably need to chip and pitch well.Reviewer Rating

Harry Colt’s hidden gem in Kent
Canterbury is a wonderful place to play golf. Kent’s famous for its world-class links a few miles east, but inland, tucked into the rolling hills of the North Downs, are some lovely courses. Others worth a visit are Broome Park, Boughton and, especially Faversham. I’d rate Canterbury higher than all of them though. Like the aforementioned, its a hilly, tree-lined rollercoaster - with many daunting tee-shots over valleys to big, rolling fairways. But what really thrills is the variety of holes - there’s not a weak one on the course and they are balanced superbly, nowhere more so than the finishing stretch of a daunting par 3 (the 185 yard uphill 17th) following by a gettable par five at 476 yards straight back to the charming clubhouse.
It’s a challenge throughout - I shot a net three-over and actually felt I played okay - but feels very fair; most of the trouble is visible from the tees, giving you an opportunity to plot your way round the course. There are few things more satisfying in golf than when a plan comes together, and Canterbury gives you ample chances to do exactly that, while also giving you plenty of ways for your plan to come undone. The trees are always in play, and the wind teases and bamboozles as the holes subtly change direction - after the opening three holes there are barely any two which go exactly the same way.
The green complexes are fascinating too, with steep-sided bunkers, grassy hollows and links-style run-off areas. The greens themselves tend to be of the small, hard-to-hit type; but at their best a miss will give you maybe four or five different options to get on the dance floor (at the 17th, for example, I missed left and was debating between putter, 60-degree wedge flop, or a bump and run with either a seven, eight or nine iron……)
There are, of course, plenty of courses which offer this kind of thing, but Canterbury has something else which just makes it feel special. It might be the truly excellent practice facilities (TopTracer range, grass pitching area, practice bunker and two putting greens), the bustling clubhouse or the surprisingly warm welcome from the guy in the Pro shop.
Or it might just be the author’s name. Harry Colt, whose name is attached to two or three courses which would make any reasonable top ten in the world, designed this track nearly 100 years ago. It’s a testament to his skills that it still makes for a wonderful round of golf.

Great day out
Turned up on a society day and was expecting a lovely course. We wasn't disappointed.Right from the welcome we received to a substantial breakfast everything was perfect. The course itself was a mature parkland affair although tight in places was very fair. You have to plot your way round,as if you try to overpower it the course will show it's teeth.
A must play track, the greens were true and quite quick and all the bunkers looked well kept as were the tees.Fairways were brown in places but we're beginning to green up due to the recent rain we have had.
Well done Canterbury, can't wait to return.????

I've played here three times recently and I have to say the course is great. Really nice holes that make you think. Tees greens and fairways are all in great nick. This time I took along 7 friends from out of the area and they were all very complimentary about the course.
