Gone downhill

Played for first time in about 6 years recently and was shocked at the state of it.
It has gone way downhill since I last played it.
Council course and they are obviously not putting any money into it any more . . . . shame, it used to be a decent course.
Try Caprington if you want to play a good course at a decent price.

This course is not well maintained and the greens are diseased and bumpy. (In fact most have heavy tractor ruts across them) As they course has now been surrounded by the new housing estate every man and his dog, pardon the pun, are walking their dogs on the course. I counted 20, yes really 20 dogs and their owners walking across fairways and greens. I'm glad my insurance was up to date? I strongly recommend you do not play this course unless you're just learning and need long iron practice. When travelling to Scotland I was told to try a municipal course as they're just as good as the private courses... well I'm sorry this is not one of them.

Fairways were covered in daisies and had clearly been allowed to grow more than their should. Greens were diseased and bumpy and most bunkers had no rakes. In all the condition of the course let it down badly. I have played here a number of years ago and it was in far better condition. A good course that has been allowed to fall into disrepair, unfortunately a trait of many municipal courses in the west of Scotland. Usually a challenging course, but in current condition you're relying on luck more than anything else to get round, and from my score, I think you can see I want carrying any.

When i arrived i was a bit dubious about parking my car as the parking spaces are next to the 18th fairway, fortunatley though its too far away tio be a concern for tee shots and the approach to the green means your aiming away from the car park.

The clubhouse seemed basic but i didn't go in, went round to the starters hut and with most courses was cheerfully met and booked in. I went on a Friday and phoned up prior to arrival to book a tee time which im glad i did as the course was very busy.

The course is fairly straight, most fairways tree lined there was not much bad rough and this is the 1st time in a long time i haven.'t lost a ball. The biggest downside is that the course clearly suffers from becoming waterlogged as some of the fairways were showing signs of wear and there was a lot of sand on some greens (7th especially) although the course was no means in bad state.

Happy with my round overall, shot an 81 despite it being my 1st game in over 7 months. I would certainly consider going back.

A nice course for municipal but others of similar quality are cheaper and offer better value for money.

Good course. Played off the white tees, found the course to be long but great to play. If you play definetly have a bacon roll before your round.
