On arrival, the friendly and welcoming members greet you as you enter the unorthodox and quirky clubhouse.
The opening nine holes are a true test of every aspect of your game. Accuracy is essential during the opening holes, and with small and undulating greens, accurate approach shots are essential to give yourself the best chance of making birdies.
The par-3 8th hole is the signature hole on the front nine. At over 200 yards, this tough par-3 requires a well-struck long iron or hybrid to reach the green. With bunkers waiting to punish wayward shots, hitting the green here is essential.
The back nine holes at Aberystwyth continue to challenge accuracy and course management. With short par-4s and a reachable par-5, there is plenty of birdie opportunities to be had, however deep bunkers and water hazards will punish wayward shots.
The closing holes at Aberystwyth are among the most picturesque in the country. Overlooking the Cardigan Bay, the par-4 17th hole is as scenic as any hole in the country.
A tough par-3 with surrounding bunkers to finish means your card is not safe until you are in the clubhouse, but a well-struck iron shot to the middle of the green will leave you with a relatively straight birdie putt.
Overall, a tough and challenging golf course with views to rival any in the country. However, a lack of practice facilities, an uninspiring pro shop and some scruffy tees are a hindrance on what is otherwise a very good golf course.
