What the club says: At 6,535 yards off the white tees, the course is not long by the standard of many newer courses. However, the real defences lie in the wind which is often a gentle zephyr but can be a stiff blow. For example, if playing 36 holes, the 193 yard par 3 5th hole could require a full hit with a driver in the morning and an 8 iron in the afternoon. Whatever the wind, it cannot spoil your enjoyment of the wonderful setting where the hills reach down to the very edges of the course. It was Bernard Darwin, the first literary giant of the game who returned here regularly, who wrote "Aberdovey is the course that my soul loves best of all the courses in the world"; one can understand why.

Links Golf at its best
We played the course late August, it was still recovering from last years drought. They sensibly allowed placement on the fairways. The rough was brutal as you would expect in links golf. Some fantastic holes like the blind par 3 hopefully with a bit of rain the course will return to its best as some greens were not in great shape. The course on the whole is excellent and a real challenge for all ranges of golfers.

Great in and out links
Loved staying in the dormy right on the 18th green. Really put me in the mood! Some exceptional holes on outward 9. The par 3 3rd is blind and great fun!
The day we played in October was rare as the wind blew in the opposite direction to normal. Hence we made mince meat of the outbound but struggled so much on back! So beware which way it blows when you play!
Some really unique holes like the par 3 twelth with wonderful views of the bay from the green. The dog leg left 17th by the railway line is a lovely hole ( beware the train drivers toot their horns no doubt to warm you! ( my playing partner put 3 tee shots onto the line! So can see why!!)
The club house is beautiful too. The barman was incredible. He knows every Newcastle United FC result including scorers going back over the last 20 years. Test him. He will even wager free drinks if he gets it wrong!!
Great fun
Excellent dormy rooms. Very modern. Full en-suite. And breakfast is top notch
Recommend doing what some do. Play aberdovey on day 1. Then take train to Harlech to play Roysl st Davids. Then return to aberdovey dormy before playing again on day 3 before returning home
But I wouldn?t recommend what some members do who play front nine then skip the first half of the back nine! Which seems crazy to me. I don?t think there is a weak hole on this course!!

Great set up
Visited for the first time in March. What a great set up. Accommodation on site. Practice facilities right outside my room along with the course. Beach is around 100 yards from the 1st tee. Amazing views and beach as far as the eye can see when the tide is out. Course was in really good condition but told that the rough was short and it was easy to find any wayward balls. When it grows it's treacherous! Everyone was extremely friendly and breakfasts great. Pro shop fab too. Planning my next trip.

absolutely great. difficult wind on back 9.

Tough into the wind, then a relief to play down wind on the back nine!
Very welcoming and helpful staff in the pro-shop, useful practice facilities to warm up before the round.
