What the club says: Originally constructed in 1970, 6023 yards in length, Abbey Hill is a very pleasant parkland course, laid out in loops of eight and ten holes. Enhancements by Howard Swann were completed in 1996 which significantly improved the course by providing eleven new tees, six new greens and brought into play a number of water hazards. The terrain is undulating with mature trees and some spectacular backdrops. A particular feature is the Par 3 17th, which requires a carry over water.
Today Abbey Hill is a mature, challenging test of golf, which appeals to both the novice player and to the competitive low handicap player. The greens are fast and true whilst the fairways are lush and manicured. Abbey Hill’s Main Course has truly earned its reputation as being the best course in Milton Keynes.

Great course
Very well managed course with character. Some good challenges for mid range handicaps. Nice clubhouse and good food. Friendly. Pros always helpful and supportive. Sand in many of the bunkers is a cm depth with clay under. Greens are superb given the density of play. Fairways really well kept.Reviewer Rating

Great municipal course
Abbey Hill is well kept and well run - the only problem is that a lot of the bunkers need digging out to remove a rock hard base and refilling with deep sand.Reviewer Rating

Poor booking system & Overpriced - play twilight for best value
I personally feel for the condition of the course and facilities it's heavily overpriced - the online booking system hardly ever works for anything less than a 4-ball (and as a result missing out on the tee time you wanted), and you're in luck if you get someone at the pro-shop to answer the phone. When I got there, the staff were seemingly nonchalant about the booking system malfunction and recommended I ring next time, lol! To be fair I'm sure it's not within their remit of expertise to fix website issues (nor should it be) - but the system has been down for months now, so shrugging at a customer's frustration was offputting. I ended up going to the driving range only to find the price of a bucket has gone up by ?2 since I was last there (?9) and the auto-load bays have been replaced by standard rubber containers. Since then (two weeks ago) the price for a round has also gone up, yet I would still rather pay an ?18 twilight fee than ?9 for a bucket of balls. Somehow the math doesn't seem to add up.The course itself is in fair condition, and I find it a well laid out and challenging 18-holes. The greens could be better mid-season, but also in fair condition (in season).
My experience has been that before and after peak season the course is "let go" a bit, the fairways are quite thick, the contours of the rough expand so much that the course becomes way tighter and the greens inconsistent.
I play Bishop Stortford with my brother-in-law once a month, and at a ?25 visitors fee, I am astounded at the difference between these two courses and can't get my head around paying a full ?30 fee for the condition, facilities and service at Abbey Hill.
I live around the corner from the club and have been considering where I would join as a member - at this point, I'd rather drive another 10 miles out and join another club with fair prices and better service.

Good value for an after work knock
Local course which is always handy for a bit of twilight golf, can get very very busy and some greens aren't the best.Reviewer Rating
