great course, bunkers could do with better sand and greens needed a bit of attention as the greens were slow and in process of growing back after winter preparation.fantastic value for money.

Poor booking system & Overpriced - play twilight for best value

I personally feel for the condition of the course and facilities it's heavily overpriced - the online booking system hardly ever works for anything less than a 4-ball (and as a result missing out on the tee time you wanted), and you're in luck if you get someone at the pro-shop to answer the phone. When I got there, the staff were seemingly nonchalant about the booking system malfunction and recommended I ring next time, lol! To be fair I'm sure it's not within their remit of expertise to fix website issues (nor should it be) - but the system has been down for months now, so shrugging at a customer's frustration was offputting. I ended up going to the driving range only to find the price of a bucket has gone up by ?2 since I was last there (?9) and the auto-load bays have been replaced by standard rubber containers. Since then (two weeks ago) the price for a round has also gone up, yet I would still rather pay an ?18 twilight fee than ?9 for a bucket of balls. Somehow the math doesn't seem to add up.

The course itself is in fair condition, and I find it a well laid out and challenging 18-holes. The greens could be better mid-season, but also in fair condition (in season).
My experience has been that before and after peak season the course is "let go" a bit, the fairways are quite thick, the contours of the rough expand so much that the course becomes way tighter and the greens inconsistent.

I play Bishop Stortford with my brother-in-law once a month, and at a ?25 visitors fee, I am astounded at the difference between these two courses and can't get my head around paying a full ?30 fee for the condition, facilities and service at Abbey Hill.

I live around the corner from the club and have been considering where I would join as a member - at this point, I'd rather drive another 10 miles out and join another club with fair prices and better service.

This is now and embarrassment of a golf club. The course has improved but still leaves a bit to be desired and is not kept well in the winter. The issue with this place is the over bearing pirate ship that has been built next to the driving range... Abbey hill and pirate island I believe it's now called. Abbey hill no longer care about golf and jugs focus on making money. Charging ridiculous prices for food and drink and claiming to be a golf club when in reality it is more like a playground. Don't bother with this place if you want to play golf. Fine if you want to keep your kids busy for a couple of hours, but good for nothing else. Not to mention the rude staff in the pro shop. There are plenty of better courses in the local area. Go anywhere else but here.

great course with great views! fantastic driving range and facilities, however for the past 5 years the management, even the General Manager do not know about customer service. My personal experience with the general manager has lied and deceived me/us. The course is good, but do not expect much from the management especially the general manager!

Slow slow busy slow

Over the last few months this course has got busier and slower. I played as a 3 ball and it took FIVE AND A HALF HOURS to get around. There’s also confusion with bookings where a ladies group has a block booking but wasn’t in the system so although we had booked the correct tee time we were bumped. It is becoming frustrating to play here.

Overpriced but enjoyable

Way too expensive for the quality of the course - have played clubs at half the price on a midweek round that are kept to a better standard. We also had someone cut in front of us on the 11th hole where the club passes the driving range which meant we barely made it in before dark.

The weather was fine and for very late November the course was generally in good to excellent condition. The 15th had a temporary green which wasn't signposted or marked so my excellent drive which normally would have left me a 100yds in then turned out to be worthless as I had to go over a bunker 20 yds in front of me and stop it 10 yds after for a pin situated in a ploughed field! Am I bitter about it - hell yes!
