Good new course

The new fulling functioning Woodlands master course gives woodlands golf club one of the best facilities in the area, with its 36 hole layout, although not one pretty view on the course but plenty of interesting golf hole.

The new greens on the masters course though are extremely hard and need bedding in but they run well all be it slower than the other greens (which can be frustrating). A couple of easy fixes which the club could do to make life easier. More bins, ball cleaners and better yardage markers (stakes on the side of the fairway) the discs in the fairway are only visible if you're onto of them. This can slow play down.

A couple of a the holes need to be evaluated for their par rating, hole 7 at 412 yards shouldn't be a par 5.

A very fair course. It may be quite short but short (and especially long!) at your peril. Very good true greens although quite slow. Brilliant value for money

Good alternative to the Signature

Despite the ongoing works to redesign the course this course plays very well. Holes 1 and 2 become 15 and 16 but you finish on 2 new holes to get the 18. Really enjoyed the round and it was a good option for a quick round with most playing the Signature course.

Played on the coldest day, everything was rock hard the weather can't be helped, but we teed off at 10:45 and the club house was closed until 11:00 so no where to get a warm drink.
the course it's self is quite nice and of course would play a lt easier with softer ground, I'll have to come back and see.

it's a turn up and pay to play course which was ok for us but I would imagine maybe difficult to get out when busy. Very cheap to play at £14 so I can't moan to much.

I have played a lot worse for far more money.

in summary 7/10

The Signature is a great course for beginners, wonderfully forgiving for most holes and uses the landscape well. Highlight is the 17th, a par 3 from a high tee position to an island green. The wind can make this anything from a wedge to a 7 iron and get the nerves jangling.

The course has not really changed much in the last 11 months since I reviewed it last. It could do with better distance markers, some more bins and ball cleaners. The course to play on is lovely and is relatively wide open compared to some courses in South Gloucestershire (Canons, Cotswold edge). Greens are in very good condition and the holes on this course are mostly unique. The 14th in my opinion is one of the best holes out of the 11 course I have played on.

We played on 1st Jan 2016, and the weather had been wet in Bristol for several days/weeks before. The fairways were heavy and locally boggy, however the tee boxes were okay and the greens were excellent given the recent rain.
